Local roundup: CM falls to Hollidaysburg

Hollidaysburg scored in its five opening drives en route to a 42-13 victory over Central Mountain Monday in a rescheduled high school football game.

From the opening kickoff it was evident that Hollidaysburg (5-4) was the better team.

The Golden Tigers’ first score occurred one minute into the game, after Jarrett Cavalet faked a handoff and raced down the field for a 50-yard score. The score was the first of four rushing touchdowns on the night for Hollidaysburg.

After falling behind 21-0, CM (3-6) attempted a comeback. With 4:52 remaining in the second quarter Mahlik Houtz took a handoff up the middle into the end zone for a two-yard score.

Immediately following Houtz’ touchdown, the Golden Tigers responded with a quick score of their own.  Jarrett Cavalet connected with an open Jack Sauserman for a 60-yard touchdown after Sauserman was able to beat a busted coverage. Just 10 seconds lapsed between the two touchdowns.

• In golf, Montgomery’s Kohltin Bartlow opened the PIAA Class AA championships with an 87 at Heritage Hills in York, 15 strokes behind leader Jason Li of Sewickley Academy. The final round is today.
