Local roundup: Jersey Shore boys top Williamsport

A goal in each half helped Jersey Shore defeat Williamsport in boys soccer, 2-0, on Wednesday afternoon at Jersey Shore.

Connor Anderson scored the first goal at the 15 minute mark off a free kick by Jacob Corson for the 1-0 first-half lead. Colton?Miller then scored on a goal assisted by Anderson in the 63rd minute.

Calvin?Lesser had six saves for the Bulldogs and?JR?Confair had five for the Millionaires.

“The boys came out of the gate strong and ready to play.?It was a much different game than when we played them just four days ago,”?Jersey Shore coach Cole Black said. “We weren’t content to sit back and defend a 1-0 lead. The boys wanted more.”

Jersey Shore improves to 8-4.

Wellsboro won in a rout of Troy, 10-2, leading 5-0 before Troy finally scored. Wellsboro got a hat trick out of Josiah Hill and Tanner Runyan each.

“I’m very happy with the boys tonight. I challenged them to keep the same level of intensity that they had against Athens,” Wellsboro coach?John?Shaffer said.?”They came out on fire. The first 20 minutes was some of the best soccer I’ve seen them put together.”

A goal in the 89th minute lifted Central Columbia to a 2-1 overtime victory over Montoursville.

Montoursville’s Josh?Kula scored in the 78th minute to tie the game at 1-1.

Spencer Goordner made 13 saves but two first-half goals by Millville doomed Sullivan County in its 2-0 loss to the Quakers.

Sullivan County (3-9) hosts North?Penn-Liberty on?Saturday afternoon.

Bloomsburg defeated Loyalsock, 3-2. Loyalsock got goals from Charlie Hunt and Quinn Deitrick.

Bloomsburg held a 9-7 shots on goal advantage.?Loyalsock’s?Matt?Loeh had seven saves.

In girls soccer, Bloomsburg defeated Jersey Shore, 2-1, on Tuesday.

At ?No. 1 singles, South?Williamsport’s Anya Plotnikova defeated Shikellamy’s?Tori?Brubaker, 6-3, 6-0, and the Mounties blanked the Braves, 5-0, in girls tennis.

South’s No. 2 doubles team of Monique McLaughlin and Mikalyn Boatman won, 6-0, 6-0, as did Megan Rovenolt at No. 2 singles.

Jersey Shore beat Towanda, 5-0, as Sierra Winner won at No. 1 singles for the?Bulldogs, 6-0, 6-0. Andrea Sanford won for Jersey Shore at No. 3 singles, 6-0, 6-1.

Montoursville defeated St.?John?Neumann, 5-0. At No. 1 singles, Montoursville’s Lacy Kimbering won, 6-1, 6-3, over Neumann’s Maylyn Ettinger.

The Warriors’?No. 1 doubles team of?Alena Clary and?Tori Kleese won, 6-1, 6-1.

Lewisburg beat Muncy, 4-1, thanks to a sweep in the singles competition. Natalie Smyth won at No. 1 singles, 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 over Muncy’s?Bella Rymsza.

Muncy’s lone win came at No. 1 doubles with a victory by Lexie Jacquez-Armenta and?Schya Moyer, 7-5, 6-1.

The Green?Dragons end the season 6-12.

Milton’s Chloe Perrin and?Amanda Arnold won at No. 1 doubles, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4, handing the Selinsgrove No. 1 doubles team its first loss of the year as Milton defeated the Seals, 4-1.

Carissa Wagner won for the Black Panthers at No. 1 singles, winning, 7-6?(7-1), 6-1. Milton is 8-9.

Montgomery defeated Galeton, 6-0. Delayna Deem, Gabby Shreck and?Katie Forrestal all won at Nos. 1-3 singles, respectively, 6-0, 6-0.

The Montgomery doubles’ teams also both won, 6-0, 6-0.

In boys cross country at Athens, Sullivan fell to Athens?(25-30) and Cowanesque Valley?(28-27). The Griffins’ top performer was Jordan?Pedro, who finished fourth in 18:43.

Sullivan also had Jake Doyle place seventh?(19:00), Omar Rubio place eighth?(19:09) and Nathan?Higley finish ninth?(19:15).

In girls cross country at Athens, Sullivan?County’s?Macrina Pochatko finished in ninth place with a time of 26:25. Sullivan does not have a full team of girls.

It was incorrectly reported in Wednesday’s Sun-Gazette that Mary McMahon was a Montgomery runner.?She runs for Williamsport. In addition the scores were as follows:

The Lock Haven University men’s soccer team fell to No. 23 Millersville, 4-0, at Stern Athletic Complex in PSAC action.

A sterling offensive performance in the second half led to five goals on 13 shots to help Lycoming post a 5-1 MAC Commonwealth win at Albright.

Lycoming (6-3-3 overall, 1-0-1 MAC Commonwealth) extended its MAC Commonwealth regular-season unbeaten streak to 15 games thanks to a four-goal outburst in the final 30 minutes against Albright to break a 1-1 tie.

Christian Moyse looped in a header from eight yards out with just 3:09 remaining to send Lafayette to a 1-0 win over Bucknell in Patriot League action.

The Bison fell to 1-1-1 in Patriot League play and 3-7-2 overall, while Lafayette improved to 2-1-0 in the league and 6-5-0 overall.

The Lock Haven University women’s soccer team was edged 2-1 in a tight PSAC match by Millersville, 2-1.

In the 21st minute, Sarah Bonelli collected a pass from Warrior Run grad Erika Landis and chipped the Marauder goalkeeper to the tie the match at 1-1.

Mansfield rallied to tie the game on a header by freshman Emily Smith late in the second half to send the game into overtime but Bloomsburg scored off a rebounded shot in double-overtime to pull out a 2-1 win in a PSAC match.

Defense prevailed as the teams battled to a scoreless tie in the first half.

Loyalsock grad Kayla Gardner scored her first collegiate goal for Penn State Altoona in a 2-1 double overtime victory over Mount?Aloysius College.

Penn College women’s tennis dropped a non-conference tennis match to Misericordia, 9-0. The Wildcats fall to 0-7 with the loss.

Lycoming sophomore Emily Hepner led the volleyball team with 19 digs, but Albright College posted a 3-0 (25-13, 25-21, 25-20) MAC Commonwealth win.

Penn College fell 3-1 to Lancaster Bible College in a North Eastern Athletic Conference match. The Wildcats fell to 2-5 NEAC, 4-13 overall.
