Local roundup: Montour girls end regular season 17-0

After trailing by one at the half, Montoursville scored two second-half goals to defeat Midd-West, 2-1, in girls soccer to end the regular season with a 17-0 record.

Caroline King scored off a Kyleigh Balint pass in the 49th minute to tie the game at 1-1. Balint then scored an unassisted goal in the 74th minute with a shot for the go-ahead goal from about 30 yards deep.

“I think the effort we put forth in the second half definitely pushed us to the end. It put the bang to the 17-0 (record),” Balint said to media after the win.

• In boys soccer, Tanner Runyan and Josiah Hill each had a goal and an assist as Wellsboro defeated Sayre, 3-1, on its Senior Night.

Tiarnan Ferry had a goal and an assist and Tom Pombor had two assists as Williamsport defeated Shikellamy, 4-0 on its Senior Night.

“We had a very good team on Senior Night and Shikellamy came ready to play and I thought we matched their intensity,” said Williamsport coach Lee Kaar. “We won some 50/50 balls and I thought the momentum of the game changed pretty quickly.”

Brooks Durand scored in the 12th minute as Loyalsock defeated Milton, 1-0. Matt Loeh made three saves for the shutout.

Josh Kula had two goals and an assist, Nick Musto had two goals and two assists as Montoursville defeated Mount Carmel, 13-2, on its Senior Night.

Hughesville’s Cole Lesher scored a goal in the 57th minute to break up a tie and give the Spartans a 3-2 win over South Williamsport. Rylan Hicks had a goal and assist for Hughesville.

South’s goals came from Donovan Killian and Dominic Caroway, as both also added an assist.

Cody Rogers and Hunter Confair both scored twice in Warrior Run’s 6-0 win over Southern Columbia on Wednesday. Jordan Morrison had a goal and assist for the Defenders (12-6).

• A goal in the 88th minute by Lycoming junior Nathan Harding helped close the gap, but the Lycoming men’s soccer team fell to regionally-ranked Lebanon Valley, 2-1, in a key MAC Commonwealth clash.

The Warriors (7-6-3 overall, 2-3-1 MAC Commonwealth) controlled play for much of the second half despite playing a man down.

West Chester scored two goals in the final ten minutes to rally past host Lock Haven, 3-2. The Bald Eagles’ got goals from Troy Amspacher and Tyler Sablyak. Amspacher’s goal marked his 13th of the season, while Sablyak picked up his first.

• In women’s soccer, Lock Haven looked poised for a huge upset, but despite a strong effort from the Bald Eagles, No. 3 West Chester remained unbeaten, thanks to a 2-0 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference victory. Central Mountain grad Bree Hilty stopped eight shots for LHU.

Ashley Dietz had two of three Mansfield’s shots on goal, but the Mountaineers couldn’t match up with Kutztown’s powerful offense in suffering a 4-0 setback.

• In women’s volleyball, Kristine Jahn posted 14 kills to lead Lycoming College, but Widener edged out Lycoming in three extremely close sets, 3-0 (27-25, 30-28, 25-22). Jahn finished with 14 kills.

Maddison Deibert had six kills and Lauren Slater had 16 assists and 10 digs but Penn College fell to Alfred State, 3-0.
