Local roundup: Unbeaten Montoursville girls soccer beats Selinsgrove

Montoursville remained undefeated with a 5-1 win over Selinsgrove in girls soccer.

Bri Ulmer and Caroline King both had two goals while King also had an assist. Kyleigh Balint had a goal and assist and Lexi Marchioni had two assists for Montoursville.

Ashlynn Fowler scored a go-ahead goal in second half to put Muncy ahead, but Meadowbrook Christian scored two unanswered goals en route to a 2-1 win over the Indians.

Madison Bowman scored twice as Williamsport won at Abington Heights, 4-1.

Wellsboro trailed by eight goals at the half as Athens won in a rout, 11-0. Taylor Renard had a hat trick for Athens, which held a 25-2 shots on goal advantage.

In boys soccer, Selinsgrove scored twice in both halves to defeat Montoursville, 4-0. Gavin Keller had a hat trick for the Seals, scoring the final three goals.

Austin Lewis scored the game-winner in the 72nd minute as Hughesville beat Troy, 2-1.

In girls tennis, The District 4 tennis doubles tournament semifinals are set for Monday at the West Branch Tennis Club after Saturday’s early rounds at Williamsport High School.

On the top of the bracket, Hughesville’s Rachel Thomas and Allison Mattucci will face Selinsgrove’s Olivia Fravel and Savanna Foor. On the other side of the bracket, South Williamsport’s Megan Rovenolt and Lily Summerson will play Milton’s Carissa Wagner and Taylor Wolfe.

In boys cross country at the NTL Coaches Invite, Wellsboro’s Aidan Perry finished third in 17:13 to lead the Green Hornets. Wellsboro also had a top-10 finisher in Connor Brought, who finished 10th in 18:07. The Green Hornets placed second out of 11 teams.

Cowanesque Valley’s Madden Doud finished seventh in 17:48.

In girls cross country at the NTL Coaches Invite, Cowanesque Valley’s Jules Jones finished in first with a finish of 20:12.13. Anna Bleggi led Wellsboro with a third-place finish (20:38) and Kayla Mengee was eighth in 21:52 for the Green Hornets.

Mansfield’s Lindsey Payne was fourth (20:50) and Brittany Weiskopf was ninth (21:55).

In women’s soccer, Lycoming fell victim to three first-half goals, as Widener posted a 3-0 MAC Commonwealth win.

Hailee Hartman scored twice as Penn College beat SUNY Cobleskill, 5-0. scored four first-half goals, including two in a 19-second span.

Unbeaten Bucknell beat American, 5-1, as five different players scored. The Bison are one of two unbeaten teams nationally.

In men’s soccer, two second-half goals stopped a five-half scoreless stretch and helped lift Lycoming to an important 2-0 MAC Commonwealth win over Widener.

Luke McFalls scored in the 76th minute to lift Penn College to a 1-0 win over SUNY Cobleskill. Hunter Gosnell recorded 10 saves for the Wildcats.

Lock Haven fell 4-0 at Mercyhurst as Jorge Gonzalez scored four times.

In women’s volleyball, Lycoming senior Kristine Jahn posted 11 kills in both matches to help Lycoming’s overcome a fifth-set deficit to post a 3-2 win (25-13, 14-25, 25-19, 18-25, 16-14) over Elmira College after falling to SUNY Cortland, 3-0 (25-22, 27-25, 25-20), at the second day of the Elmira Invitational.

Tayler Whitman had 13 kills and five blocks for Lycoming (14-15).

Jordyn Topping and sophomore Gabrielle Stick powered Lock Haven past Kutztown. 25-20, 25-23, 25-22). Topping and Stick each finished with 10 kills for LHU (4-13, 3-6 PSAC).

Bucknell sophomore Sophie Bullard registered her fourth double-double in the past six matches, but the Bison fell to visiting Holy Cross, 25-22, 25-22, 25-22.

In men’s cross country at the Gettysburg Invitational, Penn College finished 19th as freshman Josh Velez led the Wildcats with a 64th-place finish.

In women’s cross country, Lycoming had four runners post times of less than 26:30 on the 6K course as the team finished 11th out of 25 teams at the Gettysburg Invitational. Kaylee Long led Lycoming with a 35th-place finish in 24:35.8.

Penn College’s Annikea Miller finished in 136th in 30:50.5. The Wildcats finished in 25th.

In water polo, Ratimir Babic broke a 7-7 tie with a six-on-five goal with just over 30 seconds to play and the Bison defense came up with a crucial stop as Bucknell beat Princeton, 8-7.

In women’s tennis in the MAC championships, Freshmen Hannah Summerson and Julia Nagle will face Wilkes’ top-seeded Dana Saliyev and Francesca Varela-Seri at the semifinals at No. 2 doubles and Margot Rankins-Burd and freshman Anya Klimitchev will face Lebanon Valley’s Rachel Duong and Elise Hanks-Witaszek in the semifinals at No. 4.

In field hockey, Bucknell didn’t allow a shot on goal in regulation, but was on the wrong side of a phenomenal performance by Holy Cross goalie Marcia LaPlante in a 1-0 shootout loss.

Megan Tiwold scored twice as No. 8 Kutztown beat Mansfield, 2-0.

In sprint football, Adam Hutchison connected with D.J. McLean with seven seconds remaining to cut the deficit to 19-13 but time ran out on Mansfield as visiting Franklin Pierce came away with the win at Mansfield’s homecoming. Hutchison went 12-32 in passing for 122 yards and a touchdown. He was sacked twice and threw a pick. McLean totaled 56 receiving yards while Kurt Logan added 34.
