WILDCAT WEEKLY: Penn College fall teams post 6-5 week

In action over the past week, through Saturday, Pennsylvania College of Technology fall sports teams went a combined 6-5.

WOMEN’S SOCCER

At home with Keuka College last Sunday, Penn College rebounded after its first North Eastern Athletic Conference loss with a 2-0 win. Jane Herman scored the first Penn College goal at 27:37 on a penalty kick and Alexis Trkula added the second at the 29-minute mark. Keuka led in shots, 10-8, although the Wildcats led in shots on goal, 3-2. Keuka also led in corner kicks, 4-1.

In NEAC action on Saturday at SUNY Cobleskill, Penn College dominated in a 5-0 win as it improved to 9-5-1 overall and 8-1 in the conference, holding onto third place. Hartman scored two goals and had an assist to pace the offense. The Wildcats led in shots, 23-7 (18-4), and in corner kicks, 5-2.

MEN’S SOCCER

At home last Sunday in NEAC play against Keuka College, the Wildcats lost, 4-0, as Keuka led in shots, 21-6 (12-1 on goal), and in corner kicks, 4-2.

Hosting non-conference foe Juniata College on Wednesday, Penn College lost, 5-0. Juniata led in shots, 20-7 (9-3 on goal), and in corner kicks, 4-3.

Back in NEAC action on Saturday at SUNY Cobleskill, Luke McFalls scored the lone goal at 75:42 in a 1-0 Penn College win as the Wildcats went to 3-12 overall and 2-7 in the conference. Cobleskill led in shots, 17-7 (10-2 on goal), and in corner kicks, 7-3.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL

In non-conference action on Monday at Penn State Hazleton, the Wildcats won, 3-0 (25-14, 25-15, 25-15). Breana Hayward led the team with 13 kills while Lauren Slater had 25 assists.

Hosting King’s College and Valley Forge University in non-conference play on Thursday, Penn College lost to King’s, 3-1 (31-33, 21-25, 25-21, 17-25) and blanked Valley Forge, 3-0 (25-18, 25-8, 25-18). Against King’s, Coldsmith had 17 kills, Slater 42 assists and Maddison Deibert 15 digs. Against Valley Forge, Hayward had 14 kills, Slater 26 assists and Coldsmith 12 digs.

On Friday in NEAC action at the Lancaster Bible College quadrangular, Penn College lost to Penn State Abington, 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-11), as Slater had 19 assists and Coldsmith 22 digs. On Saturday, first against Bryn Athyn, Penn College won, 3-0 (25-9, 25-19, 25-22), and later Saturday against St. Elizabeth College, the Wildcats lost, 3-2 (25-14, 25-17, 21-25, 21-25, 10-15), to drop to 7-18 overall and 3-7 in the conference. Against Bryn Athyn, Slater had 37 assists and Jalee Rockey 15 digs. Against St. Elizabeth, Coldsmith had 30 digs and Slater 34 assists.

CROSS COUNTRY

On Saturday at the Gettysburg College Invitational, the men’s team finished 19th among 26 teams and the women last in a 25-team field. Josh Velez led the Wildcat men with a 64th-place finish over an 8K course in 28:03.4 and Tom Runner was 68th in 28:05.9. Annikea Miller led the Penn College women over a 6K course in 30:50.5.
