Williamsport grad Thomas named to America East All-Conference preseason team

UMass Lowell men’s basketball redshirt-junior and Williamsport High School graduate Jahad Thomas has been named to the 2016-17 America East All-Conference Preseason Team, as announced by the league office on Wednesday.

This honor marks the first ever preseason all-conference selection for the River Hawks since joining the America East in 2013-14.

“I’m really happy for Jahad to have earned preseason all-conference and I think it’s well-deserved, but I know he’s much more concerned with the success of the team as a whole,” UMass Lowell coach Pat Duquette said in a statement. “Jahad is all about winning and is a selfless teammate, even though he’s very talented. He’s the fiercest competitor I’ve ever coached in my 20 years at Division I. There’s nobody you would rather have going into a game and there’s nobody that you would rather start building a program with.”

Thomas heads into his junior campaign as UMass Lowell’s top returning scorer and rebounder after averaging 14.2 points and a career-high 7.4 boards in 2015-16. Last season, he also paced the team with 100 assists and 37 steals, in addition to boasting a 58.6 shooting percentage (177-302) from the field. He became the squad’s first-ever America East All-Conference second-team honoree with a total of 20 double-figure scoring games, including six 20-point games and two double-doubles.
