WR boys get shut out
MIDDLEBURG — Only three minutes remained on the scoreboard at the Midd-West High School soccer complex when Danville’s Jacob Foster sent a high header into the air infront of the goal box.
Warrior Run’s Tucker Hays came out a few feet from the line and was attempting to catch it, but Danville’s Liam Weaver just happened to be at the right place as he just got enough on it to make Hays misplay the ball.
The small miscalculation by the Defender goalie was all it took as the ball rolled into the back of the net.
The goal proved to be big, as it shifted the momentum right before the half as Danville shut out Warrior Run, 4-0, in the District 4 Class AA quarterfinals in Middleburg. Danville advances to play Lewisburg on Tuesday at the Balls Mills Soccer Complex in Williamsport at 8.
“It definitely looked like we fell flat for a few minutes after that. Actually felt like we did very well moving the ball for most of first half,” Warrior Run coach Andy Bieber said. “That one definitely took the wind out of our sails, best I can describe it.”
The Ironmen scored twice in the first five minutes of the second half to all but put the game away. Andrei Bucaloiu scored twice — a goal in each half — for Danville while also having an assist. Jacob Foster scored the final goal for Danville and dished two assists out as well.
Cody Rogers had a number of great attempts for the Defenders to try to put a goal on the board and possibly spark a rally, but Danville’s goalie Braeden Eckard came up with stops when needed.
With 4:13 to play, Rogers fired an excellent shot just outside of the 18, but Eckard was there dropping to his knees to block it.
“Cody has made some tremendous shots and usually those shots go in. That goalie played very, very well today to stop some of those shots he had tonight,” Bieber said. “I was looking at stats at halftime, we actually had more shots than them at halftime, more shots on goal. If you were looking at everything but the score line, you’d think we’d be winning, but we didn’t. Cody’s shots, those are usually ones that fall for us.”
