Bhangdia named state Male Player of the Year

After winning consecutive soccer state championship titles and becoming Lewisburg’s all-time goal scorer, Lewisburg’s Joey Bhangdia can add another honor to his resume: Pennsylvania Soccer Player of the Year.

The Pennsylvania Soccer Coaches Association announced Bhangdia was named the Pennsylvania Male Soccer Player of the Year, becoming the first District 4 player to ever earn the honor, which was first awarded in 1997.

“Obviously it is a huge honor for me being named an (NSCAA) All-American and state Player of the Year. I have worked very hard over my four years and I’m very happy to have gotten these awards,” Bhangdia said. “Not only that, but to have represented Lewisburg and played alongside the great players I did, it made it that much more special to me.

“This year was definitely different for me than previous years, but in the end I am very proud of what I’ve accomplished.”

Bhangdia was also named to the NSCAA All-Region II (East) team, joining Wellsboro’s Josiah Hill. He was one of five District 4 players to earn that honor this year, joining East Juniata’s Trevor Goodling, Midd-West’s Kelli Beiler and Sayre’s Chloe Tracy.

While District 4 has had numerous players earn all-region accolades since it’s inception, Bhangdia is only the second District 4 player to ever earn NSCAA All-Region in consecutive years, joining Selinsgrove’s Ashley Dincher (1999, 2000). Lock Haven’s Katie Shrack also accomplished the feat in 1997 and 1998 in District 6.
