Local roundup: Lancers defeat Milton as Emery scores 1,000th

Loyalsock outscored Milton by nine in overtime to defeat the Black Panthers, 62-53, in boys basketball.

Milton’s Ryan Emery recorded his 1,000th career point. Marcus Williams led Loyalsock with 17 points and Gerald Ross added nine. Hunter Webb had a team-high 12 rebounds.

Jaiden Lynch scored a game-high 23 points for St. John Neumann in an 84-39 win over Montgomery. Kevin Anderson had 10 assists for the Golden Knights.

Gage Anzulavich recorded a double-double for Warrior Run, scoring a team-high 23 points and 13 rebounds to help Warrior Run defeat Bloomsburg, 52-44.

Alex Baumunk posted a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds to help Sullivan County defeat Benton, 57-39. John Saxe had 18 points and seven boards.

Jeff Fry scored 26 points and Matt Coyner pulled 16 rebounds as Muncy beat CMVT, 49-26.

Taylor Mason scored 16 points for Hughesville in a 51-44 home loss to Mount Carmel.

Lewisburg scored 38 points over the middle two quarters to beat Montoursville, 59-51. Sal Brown led all scorers with 21 points for the Green Dragons. Brycen Mussina made four 3-pointers and scored 18 for the Warriors.

• North Penn-Mansfield trailed by just three points with two minutes to play against Sayre, but just couldn’t quite claim a lead as the Redskins held on for a 48-36 win in girls basketball.

Shaelyn Berguson led Mansfield with 14 points and Lauren Smith had 13.

Jada Whaley’s 15 points led all players in Williamsport’s 49-32 loss to Athens. Athens used a 14-5 fourth quarter to pull away.

Lizzie Poirier scored 14 points, Rachael Tuttle added 10 and Wellsboro rolled past Cowanesque Valley, 47-19.

Despite an 18-point effort from Makayla Butz, Williamson fell at home to Wyalusing, 56-49. Brittany Boyce added 12 points and Andrea Sheive scored 10.

Maddie Fox scored a career-high 29 points in Loyalsock’s 52-43 win at North Schuylkill.

Lauren O’Malley scored 19 points and Lexi Marchioni added 13 as Montoursville beat Danville, 49-26.

Bethany Weinhardt scored a team-high 18 and Sarah Parrish added 13 as Sullivan County defeated Benton, 51-40.

• In high school wrestling, Central Mountain went 5-0 at the Clearfield Duals, defeating Belle Vernon, 38-33, in the final. Belle Vernon finsihed third in last year’s PIAA Duals. Central Mountain advanced by beating Benton (66-12), General McClane (55-19), Williamsport (52-18) and DuBois (45-24).

Lewisburg overcame a 29-point deficit to get a win in the final bout and beat Warrior Run, 33-32. Warrior Run opened the fual with five consecutive wins for a 29-0 lead. Lewisburg won seven of the final eight bouts, including Lance Klinefelter’s 2-1 win over Jorge Guillen in the final bout at 285, to give the Green Dragons a win.

• Alex Newbold scored 14, T.J. Duckett added 13 and Lycoming held Hood without a field goal for the final 2:47 as the Warriors won, 73-68, in men’s baskebtall. David Johnson and Chris Wallace added nine for Lycoming (16-2, 8-1 MAC Commonwealth).

Erik Eichinger scored a team-high 25 points, Loyalsock grad Ben Sosa added 18 and Mansfield grad Marquis Delgado had 14 for Penn College, but the Wildcats fell late to Saint Elizabeth, 85-83.

Behind a career-high 30 points from Amir Hinton and an 18-0 run midway through the second half, Lock Haven  soared past West Chester, 88-83. Craig Slade scored 18 and Khaleeq Campbell added 13 for LHU (9-8, 5-8 PSAC).

Matt Tamanosky recorded his sixth 20-point game season, but Gannon used clutch free throw shooting down the stretch to hold off Mansfield, 81-76.

• Lycoming junior Shelby Mueller  led the Warriors (11-6 overall, 5-4 MAC Commonwealth) with 19 points, 11 rebounds, two blocks and three steals as the Warriors defeated Hood, 56-52, in women’s baskebtall. It’s Mueller’s seventh double-double of the season. Freshman Kayla Kline added 11 points.

Mansfield grad Emily James had a career-high 16 points for Lock Haven while Lysa Mealing recorded a double-double (12 points, 10 rebounds), but the Bald Eagles fell on the road at West Chester, 69-55.

Despite a sensational game by Williamsport grad Alicia Ross, Penn College fell shy against Saint Elizabeth, 85-63. Ross posted a double-double of 23 points and 16 rebounds.

• Lycoming senior Seth Lansberry and freshman Hadyn Swartwood, a Jersey Shore grad, won the 149-pound and 157-pound weight classes, respectively, to lead a group of 14 Lycoming wrestlers that placed at the Middle Atlantic Conference Championships. Lansberry ran his winning streak to 30 matches, the fourth-longest in school history.

Lock Haven earned four wins, but fell to Penn, 25-14, in college wrestling. Kyle Shoop, nationally-ranked Thomas Haines, Jake Field and DJ Fehlman all had wins for LHU (5-6).

Drew Phipps, Tom Sleigh and Tyler Greene won three consecutive bouts to conclude the match and help Bucknell overcome a late deficit to defeat Harvard, 24-16. It was the second straight win for the Bison, who improved to 4-4, 2-1 EIWA on the year. The Crimson fell to 1-4, 1-1 EIWA.

Penn State defeated No. 3 Iowa, 26-11, to remain undefeated. Penn State sophomore Bo Nickal, ranked No. 2 at 184 pounds, pinned Sammy Brooks in 38 seconds.

• LHU’s Rachel Pursell took second in the 200 breaststroke (2:10.89) while Sarah Schwarm was third (2:14.63) and Doni Matrone (2:19.63) was fourth to help LHU place second at the California (Pa.) Invitational.

Lycoming sophomore Emilie Kramer, a Wellsboro grad, posted two first-place finishes (100 butterfly and 50 free) and a second to lead Lycoming, as both the men’s and women’s teams split a Middle Atlantic Conference double-dual, with both posting wins over FDU-Florham and falling to King’s (Pa.).

Bucknell opened with a win in an exciting 200 medley relay and won five total events, but fell to Lehigh, 166.5-133.5.

• Bucknell sophomore Tom Gannon posted his first career individual win to help the Bucknell men’s swimming and diving team record a 156-123 victory over visiting Lehigh in a Patriot League meet.

• The Lock Haven University women’s indoor track and field was led by Adrienne Puglia  and Stephanie Williams performances in the weight throw at the Orange and Maroon Invite. Puglia dominated winning by nearly seven feet. Her throw of 53-03.5 feet leads all throwers in the PSAC. Williams placed sixth with a PSAC qualifying throw of 41-09.25 feet.

•  Lock Haven’s Brian Zimmerman placed fifth in the 60-meter dash running a PSAC qualifying time of 7.13 seconds for the men’s track and field team at the Orange and Maroon Invite.

• Bloomsburg senior Kaylee Caruso, a Montoursville grad, was named “Field Athlete of the Meet” at the Gulden Invitational. She improved her PSAC and NCAA qualifying marks in the long and triple jumps.
