Local roundup: Mansfield duo both earn 500th rebounds in win

Shane Kelly and Brock Burleigh both recorded their 500th career rebounds in Mansfield’s 68-54 win over Athens in boys basketball on Wednesday.

Kelly finished his record night with 12 points and 14 rebound double-double, and Burleigh had 10 rebounds with his 10 points in the game.

Ryan Emery had a team-high 24 points and Alex Garcia chipped in 11 to help Milton defeat Mifflinburg, 63-47.  River Mertz added 10.

Jon Pedro nearly posted a double-double, scoring 17 points and grabbing eight rebounds in Sullivan County’s 48-43 win over Millville in overtime. John Saxe also added 17 points for the Griffins (7-6).

Four Wellsboro players scored in double digits as Wellsboro beat Wyalusing, 64-51.  Dalton Prough had 12 points, Alden Weiner scored 11, Brendan Lamphier and Jake Singer both end with 10.

Canton defeated Williamson, 57-36, as Ridge Moore scored 20 and Byron Matthews added 14. Nevin Stiles led Williamson with 13.

Lewisburg beat Danville, 67-63.  Nate Liscum socred 18 of 26 points in the first half and Sal Brown scored 20 of his 25 points in the second half.

Neumann defeated Benton, 64-21, as Kevin Anderson and Noah Persun both scored 11. Jaiden Lynch added 10.

Matt Coyner and Jeff Fry posted double-doubles in Muncy’s 82-44 win over Bucktail.

Coyner had 19 points and 19 rebounds and Fry had 10 points and 10 rebounds. Noah Rymsza scored 24.

North Penn-Liberty fell to Northeast Bradford, 54-44. Brandyn Choplosky scored 18 points and Garrett Bickhart added 11.

Jake Butzler scored 18 points and Nate Ewing added 11 for Jersey Shore, but the Bulldogs fell to Shamokin, 68-55.

Pat West had a 19-point, 10-rebound double-double, but South came up short in a 56-53 loss to Bloomsburg.  Aaron Guerrisky had 22 points in the game.

• Cortney Parsell scored 19 and Makaya Shadle finished with 10 points in Galeton’s 49-40 loss to Otto Eldred.

Cowanesque Valley fell to Sayre, 48-22. Brynn Williams and Patty Whattles led CV scoring with six points.

Hanna Hannigan has a career high 15 points as she helped South WIlliamsport to a 44-39 win over Bloomsburg.

• In high school wrestling, North Penn-Liberty defeated Canton, 42-24. At 285 pounds, Liberty’s Justin Kriner pinned Sawyer Wooster in 1:42.

• Penn College defeated Bryn Athyn, 79-53, in men’s basketball. Jesse White posted a double-double of 13 points and 16 rebounds.

Loyalsock grad Ben Sosa led the Wildcats with 22. Erik Eichinger scored 18 and Erik Perry Jr. scored 11.

Malik Carter scored a game-high 22 points but it wouldn’t be enough as East Stroudsburg went on a 17-9 run over the final five minutes to pull out a 66-57 win over Mansfield.

The Mounties (7-10, 5-9 PSAC) were led by Malik Carter’s 22 points and Da’Quan Jones’ 10.

UMass-Lowell redshirt-junior Jahad Thomas, a Williamsport grad, logged his second consecutive 20-plus point game, as the River Hawks lost at New Hampshire, 80-71.

Thomas totaled a game-high 24 points with eight rebounds and five assists.

• Brielle Kelly recorded her fifth double-double of the season, but it wouldn’t be enough as Mansfield dropped a 65-39 final at East Stroudsburg in a PSAC East match-up.

Kelly hit a pair of field goals and went 9-14 from the free throw line scoring a game-high 13 points to go along with 11 rebounds for Mansfield (4-14, 2-12 PSAC).

Penn College women fell to Bryn Athyn, 46-42. Jane Herman posted a 13 point, 10 rebound double-double for the Wildcats as Williamsport grad Alicia Ross led the team with 17 points.
