Local roundup: Snyder records seventh double-double of year

Makenna Snyder recorded her seventh double-double this year, scoring 12 points and grabbing 15 rebounds, as Muncy downed Bucktail, 47-15, and won its third straight. Sasha McMonigle (14) and Emma Bigelow (10) also scored in double figures as Muncy (5-4) won its third straight.

Jessica Umpstead scored eight points but Benton scored 28 second-quarter points as it defeated Montgomery, 58-18.

Hannah Kaufman nearly posted a double-double for Jersey Shore as the Bulldogs edged out Midd-West, 50-45. Kaufman had a team-high 24 points and swiped away eight steals.

Nicole Varano outscored South Williamsport herself, scoring 23 points as the Red Tornadoes defeated the Mounties, 53-22. South Williamsport was led by Julie Anthony, Alyssa Johnson and Megan Weber, who all scored four.

Maddie Fox scored 15 and Sam Stopper added 10 as Loyalsock hit seven 3-pointers and overcame a 3-point third quarter to beat Southern Columbia, 45-33.

Jayden Leighow had 13 points, Emily Akers had 11and Hughesville beat Bloomsburg, 45-16.

St. John Neumann beat Millville, 39-36. Neumann’s Shayna McNamee scored 20 points and Shelly Floyd had a double-double of 10 points, 10 rebounds. Abigail Henderson had nine boards.

• Gerald Ross led Loyalsock with 18 points and was one of three scorers in double figures as the Lancers beat Athens, 71-45, in boys basketball. Marcus Williams scored 14 and Mike Lapoint added 12 for Loyalsock. Hunter Webb led the Lancers with 12 rebounds.

Christian Kemp scored 17 points, Tyler Vargeson added 14 and Cowanesque Valley edged out Austin, 59-52.

Williamsport dropped a tightly contested game to Pottsville, 55-52.  Stanley Scott led the Millionaires scoring with 22 points in a defensive battle from both sides.

Jeff Fry scored 20 points and Nate Paisley had 13 in Muncy’s loss to Midd-West, 53-49.

North Penn-Mansfield won big by besting Eddison, 62-35. Mansfield got double-doubles from Shane Kelly (16 points, 12 rebounds) and Brock Burleigh (16, 10) in the victory.

Garrett Bickhart and Gunnar Rice each scored 15 in North Penn-Liberty’s 77-33 win over Northern Potter.  Brandyn Choplosky and Drake Schmouder also score double digits in win.

• In high school wrestling, Juniata defeated Hughesville, 43-33, at the Juniata Duals. The Spartans’ Braden Stahlnecker pinned Noah Zarkovich in 1:29 at 132 pounds.

Hughesville relied on pins to down Susquenita, 54-24, behind seven first-period pins and a 10-3 win by Braden Stahlnecker.

Lewisburg went 2-0 at the Coudersport Duals, defeating Coudersport, 45-27, and Johnsonburg Area, 64-15. Against Coudersport, Cole Temple pinned Chris Davis in 28 seconds to get things started at 106 pounds.

Milton defeated Halifax, 41-40, at the Anthracite Duals. The Black Panthers got four pins and a tech fall from Logan Bennett.

• Lewisburg grad Akilah McFadden had a career-high 20 points for Lycoming, but the Warriors fell to Stevenson, 69-61, in women’s basketball. Shelby Mueller had a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds.

Gwendolyn Lavelle and Jane Herman both scored nine points to lead Penn College, but the Wildcats fell to Gallaudet, 72-36.

• In men’s basketball, Lycoming pulled away in the final three minutes using a run of seven straight points to beat Stevenson, 85-78. Chris Wallace and Willie Kee both led Lyoming with 14 points each. T.J. Duckett added 12. David Johnson and Alex Newbold also scored in double-digits, posting 10 points each.

Loyalsock grad Ben Sosa and Erik Eichinger scored 19 points each, but Penn College just fell to Gallaudet, 78-71. Mansfield grad Marquis Delgado added 12.

• Lock Haven’s swimm team returned to the pool at Franciscan University of Steubenville and earned wins in all three duals, beating Franciscan (151-129), Pitt-Bradford (163-75) and Bethany (157-59).

Raechel Rodriguez won the 100 breaststroke in 1:15.18 for LHU. Rachel Pursell took second in the 200 free in 2:11.82.

• Lycoming split a pair of matches at the Pa./N.Y. Duals at Clark Gymnasium, beating Oswego, 23-14, after losing to RIT, 26-16. Travis Ogden won at 197 pounds for Lycoming against Oswego to help turn the match.

Jersey Shore grad Hadyn Swartwood won at 157 pounds with a 13-0 major decision victory. Lycoming senior Seth Lansberry won his 126th career win, just one shy of the program record of 127 set by Royce Eyer (1997-01).

• At the Kevin Dare High School Invitational at Penn State, South Williamsport senior Katie Jones set a new meet record by clearing 13-feet.
