Lutz hits 100; Hughesville nips Benton
Montoursville’s Wyatt Lutz became the latest Montoursville wrestler to join the 100-win club, becoming the 16th Warrior wrestler to do so as Montoursville beat Williamsport, 41-18, in high school wrestling. Lutz won at 120 pounds by technical fall, 18-2, over Williamsport’s Owen Sampsell.
Muncy fell to Southern Columbia, 47-19. Hunter Poust earned a win by pin at 220 pounds for the Red Raiders in 2:43. Montgomery also got wins at 106, 145 and 170 pounds.
Brandon Daldo, Lucas Drick, Oscar Garcia, and Jensen Drick picked up four pins in a row as Montgomery beat Loyalsock 45-22. Sam Griffiths had a 22-9 major decision at 170 pounds for the Lancers.
Hughesville beat Benton on most head-to-head wins criteria, 37-36. Benton had 6 pins in the match. Hughesville with 3 pins, 2 forfeits and 2 wins from Josh Dauberman (6-1) and Luke Gorg (7-1), which propelled the Spartans over Benton.
• In girls basketball, Maddie Fox scored a game-high 22 points, while hitting five 3-pointers as Loyalsock defeated Bloomsburg, 67-29. Loyalsock outscored Bloomsburg 34-12 in the first half and 17-4 in the fourth quarter.
Jersey Shore outscored Shikellamy in every quarter and Hannah Kauffman scored a game-high 16 points to lead the Bulldogs to a 43-32 win over Shikellamy. Averie Hess and Olivia Edler added eight points each for Jersey Shore.
Grace Kelleher led Lewisburg with 23 points, eight rebounds, four steals and three assists as the Green Dragons defeated Danville, 40-22. Lewisburg held Danville scoreless in the first and fourth quarters as the Green Dragons jumped out to a 14-0 lead. Emily Sholly added 11 points for Lewisburg.
Megan Zimmerman scored 10 led Warrior Run with 10 points but it wasn’t enough as it fell to Mount Carmel, 38-21.
Montoursville topped Montgomery 59-36, going 15 of 20 at the foul line as a team. Marlene Bassett scored 19 in the win as Lauren O’Malley had 17.
South Williamsport dropped to Southern Columbia 52-35. Megan Weber led the Lady Mounties scoring with 16 points, and Haley Neidig had 8 points in the game.
Stef Kramer scored 23 points as Sullivan County defeated Montgomery, 65-28. Michala Alexander led Montgomery with nine.
• In swimming, Williamsport swept Mt. Carmel as the boys won 56-17, and the girls won 98-95. Warren Aungst set a new Millionaire record in the boys 1-meter diving, scoring a 234.10.
• In college wrestling, Lock Haven’s DJ Fehlman was named Eastern Wrestling League Freshman of the Week a day after being named PSAC Athlete of the Week. Fehlman, who moved down to 133 pounds in late December, went 2-0 this weekend for the Bald Eagles, now 14-4 in his weight class.
