ROUNDUP: Bucknell wrestling beats Brown, goes 2-0 on trip
Tom Sleigh and Tyler Greene closed out the match with back-to-back victories and Bucknell totaled seven individual wins as the Bison wrestling team completed a 2-0 weekend with a 25-15 victory at Brown on Sunday afternoon.
Bucknell had three wins for bonus points as it was able to overcome a pair of six-point victories by Brown. The Bison held a four-point lead at 19-15 before Sleigh and Greene closed out the match with a pair of decisions at 197 and 285 pounds. The Bison opened an early 11-0 lead with the three wins by a combined 29-6 score. Freshman Jordan Gessner, a Lewisburg graduate, got things started with an 11-4 decision at 125 pounds, giving him a pair of wins this weekend by a combined 22-7 score.
D.J. Fehlman upset nationally-ranked Mark Grey, but Lock Haven fell to Cornell, 31-15. Fehlman beat the two-time NCAA qualifier, 4-0. Grey was ranked 17th in the recently released NCAA Coaches Poll rankings. Tristan Sponseller, Thomas Haines and Kyle Shoop were also winners for the Bald Eagles.
• Junior Andrew Canavan, freshman Devyn Goda and sophomore Emilie Kramer each won three individual events and a relay to lead the Lycoming College swim teams to a sweep of Lebanon Valley. Canavan and Goda helped the men’s team to a 128.5-103.5 win, and Kramer led the women to a 134-104 victory.
Goda paced the Warriors (4-6 overall, 4-5 MAC) with individual race wins in the 200-meter breaststroke (2:41.54), 100-meter butterfly (1:07.42) and the 100-meter breaststroke (1:10.67), as the men’s squad won nine of the 13 events. Canavan added wins in the 200-meter individual medley (2:27.96), the 200-meter backstroke (2:16.73) and the 200-yard freestyle (2:11.33).
Kramer led the women’s team with three race wins, as Lycoming won nine of the 13 races to finish the season with a 4-6 overall record and a 4-5 mark in MAC competition. Kramer won the 200-meter individual medley (2:38.81), the 200-meter breaststroke (3:01.62) and the 50-meter freestyle (29.54).
