LHU men eliminated by ESU

Despite five players scoring in double figures and a strong second half push, the No. 6 seed Lock Haven men’s basketball team (13-14) fell to No. 3 East Stroudsburg (18-10), 106-87 Monday in the PSAC First Round. Five different Bald Eagles, among them three freshmen, netted double figures including Tarojae Brake, who continued his strong play off the bench. He scored a team-high 20 points to cap his remarkable run of play down the season’s stretch.

Fellow rookies Khaleeq Campbell and Amir Hinton netted 17 and 13 points, respectively. For Hinton, his 13 points push him to 642 points for the season, which breaks Lock Haven’s all-time single-season scoring record.

Elsewhere, Williamsport graduate and current UMass Lowell men’s basketball player Jahad Thomas became the program’s first American East All-Conference First Team selection. Thomas turned in the best season of his career so far in 2016-17, averaging team highs of 18.3 points and 9.0 rebounds per game, 143 assists and 50 steals. The guard/forward led the America East with a 58.9 field goal percentage, in addition to finishing second in the league for rebounding and assists. He surpassed 1,000 career points and 500 career rebounds in back-to-back games this season to become just the ninth player in program history to achieve both milestones.

• In men’s lacrosse, for the second time in his career, Lycoming’s Michael Tenant has been named the MAC Commonwealth Defensive Player of the Week. Tenant played all 120 minutes in the team’s opening two games, making 27 saves (60 percent) while facing 73 shots.
