Local roundup: Montoursville girls claim HAC-II championship

Montoursville clinched its first girls basketball league title since 2000, taking the HAC-II in a 44-38 win over Mifflinburg on Tuesday night. Alexis Marchioni totaled 15 points and Lauren O’Malley added 11 for the Warriors.

Neumann won 35-21 over CMVT as Shayna McNamee scored 18 and Gabby Lisi had 10 points. Shelly Floyd recorded 15 rebounds and Abigail Hen­derson with 10 re­bounds for Neumann.

Montgomery lost to Millville 32-28. Michaela Alexander led the Red Raiders with 9 points.

Hughesville won 42-33 over Southern Columbia. Jade Cordrey and Jayden Leighow both scored 12 points for the Spartans.

North Penn-Mansfield dropped season finale to Wyalusing, 58-29.  Brit­tany Weiskopff led the Tigers with 8 points.

Hannah Kauffman led Jersey Shore over Selins­grove, 51-38.  Kauffman scored 19 points as Liz Severino added 10 for the Bulldogs.

For the first time in five years, Williamson is district-bound thanks to a 60-47 win over North Penn-Liberty. Andrea Schieve led Williamson with 14 and Brittany Boyce added 13. MaKayla Butz had 11 points and a team-high seven rebounds. Liberty got 16 points from Marissa Harer.

Rachel Tuttle and Lizzie Poirier had double-doubles to help Wellsboro edge out Troy, 46-43, to finish second in the NTL Large School division.  Poirier had 19 point and 12 rebounds and Tuttle ended with 10 points and a game-high 21 boards. Wellsboro will play at Sayre on Thursday in the NTL Showdown.

Madi Welliver almost scored as much as South Williamsport did, with 13 of Warrior Run’s points in a 39-14 win.

Megan Zimmerman added 11 for Warrior Run. South Williamsport had six players score two points.

Kassidi Lenhart (11) and Emma Bigelow (9) combined for 20 points but it wasn’t enough as Muncy fell to Benton 45-29. Just four players scored for Muncy with three combining for 27.

Lewisburg held Central Columbia to less than 10 points in each quarter as the Green Dragons won, 50-28. Grace Kelleher led Lewisburg with 15 while Emily Sholly added 12.

• In boys basketball, Ridge Moore led Canton with 23 points to help Canton defeat Sayre, 65-52. Byron Matthews added 15 for Canton.

A career-high 28-point performance from Colin Heilbrun helped Williamson defeat North Penn-Liberty, 63-60.

• In girls swimming, Laura Good led Wil­liamsport with two individual wins in the 200 IM and 500 free and she helped the 400 free relay team take first as Williamsport beat Danville, 79-77. Katie Cassidy won the 1-meter dive with a 218.10 while Lydia Smith (50 free, 200 free relay), Elisa Dinicola (100 fly, 200-, 400- free relay) and Amanda South­ard (100 breast, 400 free relay) all picked up multiple first-place finishes.

• In boys swimming, Eddie Good took first in the 200 IM and 100 back and Matt Beard took first in the 50 free and 100 free as Williamsport defeated Dan­ville, 97-50. Josh Bonislaw­ski took first in the 100 breast and helped the 200 medley and 200 free relay teams take first.

• In wrestling, Montours­ville got seven forfeits and a pin from Kyle Bennett in the Warriors’ 45-27 victory over Benton.

Lewisburg benefitted from four pins in their 39-29 win over Selinsgrove.  Jus­tin Gessner (113) Chase Prutzman (152), Zane Yoder (160) and Trey Delbaugh (182) all had falls for the Green Dragons.

Brandon Shearer (120) and Troy Eubanks (126) got pins in Loyalsock’s 49-15 loss to Central Columbia. Ares Enriquez had an 11-4 victory at 195 for the Lancers.

Williamsport beat Dan­ville, 41-36. Owen Mahon (120), Riley Hilner (126), and Dalton Kriner (285) secured pins for the Millionaires.

• In college basketball, Mansfield forward Brielle Kelly, a junior, and Lock Haven guard Amir Hinton, a freshman, both earned weekly PSAC honors this week. Kelly was named PSAC Eastern Division Women’s Basketball co-Athlete of the Week and Hinton was named PSAC Eastern Division Fresh­man of the Week.

• In wrestling, Lock Haven’s Kyle Shoop was named the Eastern Wrest­ling League’s Freshman of the Week after going 6-0 this past week and outscoring his opponents, 77-1.

• In college tennis, Bucknell’s Andrei Vitiuc was named the Corvias Patriot League Player of the Week thanks to a 2-0 week in singles competition and going 1-0 in doubles competition against Cleveland State and La Salle.
