Bucknell Bison release 2017 football schedule
LEWISBURG – The 2017 Bucknell football schedule features six home games, including the first-ever matchup with Monmouth, and a road trip to William & Mary, against whom the Bison have not played in 21 years. The slate begins on Saturday, Sept. 2, with a home contest against Marist and then Patriot League play crops up quickly as Holy Cross visits Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium in Week 2.
Bucknell will play Marist in its season opener for the third straight season and fifth time in the last six years. The Bison are 11-1 all-time against the Red Foxes, including a 26-10 verdict last season in Poughkeepsie.
After taking on Holy Cross on Football Alumni Weekend on Sept. 9, the Bison hit the road for the first time on Sept. 16 at William & Mary. The Tribe finished 5-6 last season but routed No. 7 Richmond 34-13 in the season finale. Bucknell and William & Mary last played in 1996, which the Tribe won, 47-0.
Bucknell returns home on Sept. 23 to face Sacred Heart on Family Weekend.
The inaugural Bucknell-Monmouth clash will take place on Sept. 30 at home. This will be the second straight year that Bucknell has played a member of the Big South. The Bison fell at Charleston Southern in 2016.
After a bye week, the Bison travel to Cornell on Oct. 14. The Bison and Big Red will be meeting for the 18th time in the last 19 seasons, with the only interruption due the 9/11 attacks.
