LHU’s Werner, Zimmerman both earn PSAC indoor nods

Lock Haven’s Lydia Werner and Brian Zimmerman were both named PSAC Freshmen of the Year for indoor track and field in women’s and men’s competition, respectively, the conference announced on Tuesday.

Werner is the second Bald Eagle to win the award, joining Chelsea Morse in 2005-06 and the third LHU student-athlete to win a major award. She finished third at the PSAC Championship in the pentathlon with 3,190 points. Werner was also an all-region selection.

Zimmerman was an all-region selection in the men’s 200 and finished third in the event at the PSAC Championships. He was the top freshman finisher with a time of 21.88. His top 200 time (21.55) ranked him 21st in the nation and he finished the indoor campaign as the No. 2 freshman in all of Division 2.

Bloomsburg’s Kirsten O’Malley, a Montoursville grad, received all-conference honors in three events. O’Malley was all-conference after winning the 400 at the PSAC Championships and was all-conference with a second-place finish in the 1,600 relay and third in the long-jump.

Also in the long jump earning all-conference was Bloomsburg’s Kaylee Caruso, another Montoursville grad, who finished second. Bloomsburg’s Joselyn Estrada-Pascual, a Milton grad, was all-conference after taking third in the high jump.

Slippery Rock’s Ian Nieves, a Milton grad, was all-conference in the men’s 60.
