Local roundup: Hoover, Lewisburg ends Sock’s HAC streak

In high school baseball, Aaron Hoover pitched the complete game and drove in Wilson Fisher with a walk-off single as Lewisburg ended Loyalsock’s HAC-II win streak at 38 games with a 5-4 win.

Lewisburg was down two entering the bottom of the seventh inning before Hoover’s single ended the game. Hoover struck out two while allowing just two earned runs. Jack Marrara had two RBIs for Lewisburg.

Central Columbia scored seven runs combined in the fifth and sixth innings as it defeated Hughesville, 8-0. Hughesville knocked out just two hits in the game, a hit apiece from Britt Balliet and Jared Snyder.

Brayton Rowello hit a lead-off, eighth-inning home run and Warrior Run overcame a six-run deficit, beating Mount Carmel, 10-6, in eight innings. The Defenders trailed 6-0 after three innings but scored four runs in the seventh to force extra innings and Rowello’s home run sparked a four-run eighth-inning rally.

Bryce Woland went 4 for 5 with four RBIs and Vincent Bender was 3 for 4 with five RBIs as the Defenders stormed back.

Tanner Esposito got the win on the mound as Williamsport beat St. Mary’s, 7-3. Cam Pardoe had a double and RBI for the Millionaires.

Montgomery rattled off a four-run seventh for a 4-0 win over CMVT. Montgomery’s Jensen Drick went 2 for 3 with a double and RBI.

Wellsboro downed Canton, 10-3. Johnny Rowland earned the win for the Hornets. Dalton Prough went 2 for 3 and had four stolen bases and, Silas Wagman had three RBIs.

• Juliana Cruz scattered three hits over five innings and recorded four hits of her own as Loyalsock beat Southern Columbia, 13-0, in softball in a game shortened to five innings. The Lancers had 16 hits, including Elizabeth Haller’s home run and four RBIs.

Rhiallie Jessell had three hits for Loyalsock.

Williamson rallied in both the seventh and eighth innings to edge Towanda, 14-13, in eight innings and record its first win. Emily Yusko earned the win and also went 3 for 4 with five RBIs as Williamson erased a 6-2 fourth-inning deficit.

Ella Durst and Kendra Colegrove also each had three hits.

Alyssa Yungwirth struck out 10 and gave up just four hits but it wasn’t enough as Wellsboro fell to Canton, 3-0. Wellsboro amassed just four hits in the loss, two from Brianne Keane.

Williamsport shut out St. Mary’s, 10-0. Mikayla Aldenderfer got the win for Williamsport. Skyler Colaruso and Brittany Thompson both hit a triple, and Kaylee Hornberger went 3 for 5.

Central Mountain defeated Midd-West, 12-2, in five innings.

Cait Brush led the Wildcats with a 3 for 4 day at the plate, including hitting two doubles and having four RBIs. Skylar Smith was 2 for 3 with two doubles and Madison Knepp had a double and two RBIs as well.

Anne Weller struck out eight with no walks in a complete game four-hitter to lead St. John Neumann in its season-opening 10-2 win over Millville. Weller had three RBIs and Shayna McNamee had three hits. Cheyenne Danneker added two hits and an RBI.

• South Williamsport defeated Bloomsburg, 4-1, in boys tennis to improve to 5-0.

Bryce Brewer, McGwire Molino and Jared Jacobs swept the Nos. 1-3 singles competition, respectively, for the Mounties. Bloomsburg’s win came at No. 2 doubles.

Lewisburg defeated Central Mountain, 5-0. Tim Sprunt won at No. 1 singles for the Green Dragons, 6-1, 6-2, over Matthew Schuback.

Carter Casimir won at No. 2 singles for Lewisburg (6-0) and Drew King earned a win at No. 3 singles.

Williamsport swept the doubles matches and took two out of three in singles as the Millionaires beat Milton, 4-1. Joe Dinsmore and Will Knauth teamed up for the win at first doubles, and Tiarnan Ferry and Mike LeBlanc won at second doubles for Williamsport.

Ethan Burns won at No. 1 singles, Nick Sharayko won at No. 3 singles and Hughesville swept the doubles matches as the Spartans defeated Muncy, 4-1. Justin Kramer picked up Muncy’s lone win at No. 2 singles.

Hughesville beat Muncy 4-1. Ethan Burns and Nick Sharayko won their singles matches for Hughesville. Muncy’s Justin Kreamer defeated Braden Forseman 6-2, 7-6.

Towanda topped North Penn-Liberty 6-2. Towanda swept the singles matches and got a doubles win from Chris Buckley 10-1. Liberty’s Zac Kerstetter and Issac Weaver defeated Django Ygigoen in a 10-8, 8-6 tiebreak.

• Mansfield pounded out 28 runs in a doubleheader sweep of Lincoln in a non-conference baseball game, 12-1 and 16-3.

Mansfield (15-13, 4-4 PSAC East) opened the scoring in the top of the first inning of game one, hanging six runs. Tanner Klein drilled a three-run homer in the second inning to increase Mansfield’s lead.

• college softball, a first-inning grand slam by Central Mountain Morgan Kunes and a pair of doubles by Rachael Shady, another Central Mountain grad, helped Lycoming College to a 9-1 five-inning win over crosstown rival Penn College.

Freshman Kayla Kline went 3-for-3 with three runs scored, moving within a game of the school record for longest hitting streak, held by Amy Long (1996) and Holly Lansberry (2012) at 17 games. She also extended her streak of consecutive hits to six, tied for the 23rd-longest in Division III history.

• Kelly McGinniss scored six goals to lead Lycoming to a 16-10 win over Susquehanna in women’s lacrosse. Jordan Lazarich scored a hat-trick and had two assists for Lycoming.

• Lycoming junior Zachary High and senior Josh Cram, both Central Mountain grads, each won both their singles and doubles matches to lead the Lycoming College men’s tennis team, but Albright won four singles and two doubles bouts to post a 6-3 MAC Commonwealth win.

• In women’s tennis, freshmen duo Hannah Summerson and Julia Nagle tied a school record with their 11th doubles win of the season together to highlight the day for Lycoming College, which reached 10 dual meet wins for the third time in school history with a 7-2 MAC Commonwealth win over Albright College.
