Local roundup: Liberty’s Doney strikes out 15 in no-hit victory

Liberty sophomore Sa­vannah Doney struck out 15 in her first career no-hitter in a 6-0 softball win Monday over Benton. Don­ey also doubled and had two RBI.

Bloomsburg beat Loyal­sock in 8 innings, 8-7. Eliza­beth Haller had 3 hits in the loss.

Kalindi Maggs had a big day, going 3 for 4 with five RBIs as Williamsport made a late-game comeback before losing, 10-6 to Mif­flin County. Jessica Brooks and Katie Miele added two hits each for Williamsport which has 41 hits in its last three games and hosts State College and Jersey Shore, Wednesday and Thursday.

Cathryn Brought pitched a complete-game two-hitter to lead Wellsboro to a 6-0 win over Sayre. Brought also picked up two hits as did Sydney Tremper and Wellsboro scored all six of its run between the 4th and 6th innings, with four in the 6th.

Megan Herriman threw a complete-game shutout and Warrior Run had 17 hits as the Defenders defeated Southern Colum­bia, 10-0 in six innings. Warrior Run scored a run in every inning while six players had multiple hits, led by three hits apiece from Gabby Heiss and Gina Beyer.

St. John Neumann dropped its first game of the season as it fell to Canton, 18-6. Brooke Ward led Canton with four hits while Evelyn Katona earned the win. Brianna Minnier and Cheyenne Danneker led Neumann with two hits apiece.

• In baseball, Mount Car­mel shut out South Williamsport, 4-0. Aaron Guerrisky was 2 for 3 for South.

Noah Showers threw a 1-hitter and also went 3 for 4 with two RBIs as Warrior Run routed Benton, 11-1 in five innings. Vincent Ben­der and Luke Burrows each had two hits and three RBIs.

Andrew Malone threw a complete-game three-hitter while striking out seven as Loyalsock defeated Central Columbia, 2-1. Malone also had two hits as Loyalsock scored the eventual game-winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Hughesville managed just two hits as it fell to Danville, 4-1. Jacob Corson threw five innings of strong relief for the Spartans.

Sam Rosevear had three hits with two triples and a double and two RBIs to lead a Lewisburg offense that had 11 hits in the Green Dragons, 9-2 win over Midd-West. Nick Shed­leski and Jack Marrara combined on the three-hitter for Lewisburg.

• In boys tennis, Loyal­sock won the No. 1 singles and doubles matches in three sets but it wasn’t enough as Loyalsock fell to Bloomsburg, 3-2. Ashton Martin won at No. 1 singles and Jack Bomboy and Andrew Czap teamed up for the doubles win.

Lewisburg won every match in two sets as it defeated Hughesville, 5-0. Tim Sprunt won 6-4, 6-1 at No. 1 singles while Carter Casimir won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 singles.

Galeton remained undefeated as it defeated Liberty, 7-0. Eli Trimbur at No. 1 singles, Evan Griffen at No. 3 singles, Cooper Sunderlin at No. 4 singles and Joel Brelo at No. 5 singles all won, 6-0, 6-0.

• In college golf, Penn College finished eighth in a nine-team field at the Blue Jay Classic hosted by Eli­zabethtown College. Ned Baumbach’s 29th place finish led the Wild­cats with 84 on the par 71, 6,960-yard, course. Tyler Marks fired 85 for 34th, Ben Fails carded 90 for 41st, Michael Lautensack shot 91 for 43rd, and Austin Mosca­riello had 92 for 47th.
