Local roundup: Muncy baseball beats Neumann

Muncy scored six runs over the first three innings, cruising to a 10-3 win over St. John Neumann Thurs­day in high school baseball. Christian Good opened with three shutout innings for the Indians. Caleb Smith drove in a trio of runs for Muncy, and Nathan Paisley had three hits and an RBI.

Owen Kiess went 5-5 in Montoursville’s 11-5 win over Mifflinburg. Kiess hit three doubles with two RBIs and four runs scored, Gabe Phillips was 2-2 with a walk and three runs in the Warrior’s win.

• In softball, Justine Yeager and Olivia Miller both went 1 for 2, but Selins­grove took a big early lead and cruised from there as it defeated Hughesville, 14-1.

Emily Snyder struck out 10, but Montgomery committed six errors in a 5-1 loss to Benton.

Kat Ebner threw a one-hit shutout, and Muncy pounded out 10 hits in an 11-0 softball win in five innings over Millville. Makenna Snyder, Domin­ique Schell and Monique Woodring all had a pair of hits for the Indians, who posted six runs in the first inning.

Warrior Run broke open a tight game in the top of the seventh inning with a pair of runs to take a 6-4 win over Bloomsburg. Maddie Beyer had four hits for the Defenders, and Gina Beyer and Megan Herri­man each had three hits.

St. John Neumann had four players with three hits in a 16-hit attack as the Knights beat CMVT, 13-1. Cheyenne Danneker drove in three runs and Maria Helminiak and Anne Wel­ler drove in a pair each. Weller also struck out seven and scattered six hits to pick up the win.

Loyalsock opened with a five-run inning against Shikellamy on its way to an 11-4 win over the Braves. The Lancers pounded out 16 hits, including three for Bella Barone and Teghan Taylor.

Lewisburg fell to Mifflinburg 7-2. Delaney Wagner went 1 for 4 with a triple for Lewisburg.

• In boys tennis, Loyal­sock swept the doubles matches to complete a 3-2 win over South Williams­port. Andrew Czap and Jack Bomboy teamed up for a 7-6 (5), 6-4 win at first doubles, with Ben Wescott and Evan Painton winning at second doubles, 6-3, 6-2.

Lewisburg dropped just three games in a sweep of the singles matches on the way to a 5-0 win over Shikellamy.

Andy McNeal secured his first win at No. 1 singles as Milton beat Jersey Shore, 3-2. McNeal cruised to the win at first singles, 6-0, 6-4.

Justin Kramer won a three-set match at first singles, coming back from dropping the first set to remain undefeated and help Muncy beat Towanda, 3-2.

Eric Andersen and Mit­chell Young combined to pull out a three-set thriller at first doubles as Mon­toursville swept Hughesville, 5-0.

• In boys track, Corbin Hollenbrach won the discus and javelin events for Montgomery as the Red Raiders beat Meadowbrook Christian in boys track and field, 75-69. Adam Dietrich also won a pair of field events for Montgomery, taking first in the pole vault and long jump.

• In girls track, Mont­gomery’s Morgan Johnson put together wins in the shot put, discus and pole vault to lead the Red Raiders to an 89-59 win over Meadowbrook Chris­tian in girls track and field. Jessica Umpstead won the long and triple jumps, and took first in the 400 for the Red Raiders.

• In college baseball, Brittan Kittle went 1 for 5 with a two RBI triple in Penn College’s 5-3 win over King’s. Ben Flicker was 1 for 4 with an RBI double and a run scored while Aaron Palmer threw a six-hit complete game on the mound.

• In college softball, Lycoming dropped two one-run games to Messiah, 3-2, an 5-4 in 8 innings. Ashley Schoenstadt went 2 for 3 with a two run home run in the second inning of the first game for Lyco­ming, and was 2 for 4 with an RBI in game two.

• In college sports, Two Lycoming athletes repeated their recognition as Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholars by Diverse Issues in Higher Education in its April 6 issue. Senior cross country runner Donald Keys repeated as a second-team selection, and senior football player Adin Hines was named to the fourth team.

Diverse Issues established the Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholars Program, named for the late tennis star, in 1992 to honor outstanding undergraduate students of color. Each sports scholar must be a non-freshman who competes in an intercollegiate sport, maintains a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.20, and is active on his campus or in the community.

Keys earned four letters with the cross country team, turning in his finest campaign as a senior, when he posted a career-best time of 32 minutes, 29 seconds at the NCAA Mideast Regional.

Hines has earned three letters with the football team, developing into one of the team’s best defensive linemen.
