Local roundup: Shore’s Saar earns fourth win on mound

Timmy Saar won his fourth game, tying for the area-lead, and Brandon DePasqua stranded the winning runs in the seventh inning for his second save as Jersey Shore edged Shamokin, 6-5, on Wednesday afternoon.

Saar came within an out of throwing his second straight complete-game and Colten Corter had two RBIs. Dylan Young scored twice and had an RBI, giving him three RBIs in the last two days.

Bryce Woland and Noah Showers each had three hits and Warrior Run took a big lead in the middle innings before holding a furious seventh-inning rally and beating rival Milton, 6-5. Gage Anzulavich won his third game and Showers and Woland both doubled as Warrior Run won its second straight.

Eric Holz threw four no-hit innings and Loyalsock had 16 hits as the Lancers defeated Southern Columbia, 18-6. Alden Mileto and Connor Watkins each had three hits while Dominic Fischetti, Holz and Hunter Webb had two hits each with Webb belting a two-run home run as Loyalsock led 13-0 after three innings and 18-1 midway through the fifth.

Conrad Sheatler threw a complete-game four-hitter to lead Hughesville to a 3-0 win over Lewisburg. Hughesville took a 1-0 lead in the second inning before scoring a run in the sixth and seventh innings.

Jared Snyder led Hughesville with two hits and an RBI while Jacob Corson and Mike Hill had the other RBIs.

• Lock Haven swept host Lincoln University, 7-0 and 9-1, in a college baseball doubleheader.

Lock Haven (25-9) won game one 7-0 after pitchers Tom Cockill and Tyson Petersheim threw a combined one-hitter. In game two, the Bald Eagles got a strong start from Matt Lahn, who pitched four-innings of one-hit ball on the way to the win. LHU took game two 9-1.

The two wins today push Lock Haven’s season record to 25-9 and help the Bald Eagles lock up their first winning-season since 2002. The 25 wins are also the most since LHU posted a 25-win season in 2002.

• On Tuesday, Williamsport’s girls track and field team defeated Midd-West, 127-23. Nina Schappell took first-place finishes in the 400 in 1:04.81 and long jump (15-1) for the Millionaires. Mary McMahon won the 800 (2:38.01) and 1,600 (5:39.81) while also helping the 3,200 and 1,600 relay teams take first-place finishes.

Jessica Umpstead won the long jump and triple jump and Morgan Johnson won three individual field events, but Montgomery fell to South Williamsport, 78-71.

• South Williamsport defeated Montgomery, 100-50, in boys track and field on Tuesday. Connor Rutan won the shot put (39-4) and discus (105-11) for the Mounties. Hunter Crawley earned a win in the 800 (2:13.55) and 3,200 (13:13.40) for South Williamsport.

• The Lock Haven University men’s outdoor track and field team moved up in the rankings as the Bald Eagles are ranked No. 4 in the weekly U.S Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Atlantic Region rankings.

• In men’s lacrosse, a solid defensive effort that held Alvernia University to just 20 shots and forced 25 turnovers, including 15 in the second half, helped Lycoming College post a 7-4 MAC Commonwealth win.

The Warriors were led by Richie Hurley’s three goals and Garrett Huff scored twice. Lycoming also got a goal from Shain Quigley and Connor Riorden.

• Kelly McGinniss scored five goals, Lycoming’s win streak extends to five games by topping Alvernia, 14-9, in women’s lacrosse.

Nicole Gerling had 14 shot blocks in the cage and Hailey Kimble scored four goals.

• In women’s tennis, Lycoming’s Kaitlin Hallabuk and South Williamsport grad Hannah Summerson each won singles matches to lead Lycoming College against first-place Messiah College, but the Falcons came away with the 7-2 win.

Summerson won her 11th singles match of the year with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Carly Dove at No. 1 singles, moving her into a tie for eighth in school history for wins in a season. Combined with her 11 doubles wins, she is tied for third in program history with 22 combined wins, just two shy of the school record of 24 set by Cricket Temple in 2000.
