Local roundup: Jersey Shore softball qualifies for playoffs

Brianna Herman was 3 for 4 with 4 RBIs as Jersey Shore rallied past Loyal­sock, 6-3, with three runs in the fifth and sixth innings. The win qualified Shore for the District 4 Class AAAA playoffs.

The Bulldogs were hosting a pink-out game, with money raised going to either cancer research or a local family with someone fighting cancer.

Hughesville recorded a big upset and continued its late-season playoff push, beating Wellsboro, 3-1. The Spartans snapped Wells­boro’s 14-game winning streak and handed the Hornets just their sixth regular-season loss over the last three seasons. Taryn Lambert threw a complete-game, Emily Watts hit a two-run triple and Ma­kenna Budman hit an RBI single as the Spartans (7-9) won for the third time in four games.

Muncy fell behind 7-0 before it got any runs across as it fell to Mifflin­burg, 9-5. Kat Ebner led Muncy, going 2 for 3 while pitching a complete-game.

Warrior Run scored 10 runs in the first three innings and scored three more insurance runs in the sixth inning as it defeated Lewisburg, 13-7. Haley Miller had a double and triple and Madi Waltman and Lauren Watson also had gtwo hits while Megan Zimmerman had a home run for Warrior Run. Delaney Wagner, Katie Koch and Sydney Hoffman all had multi-hit games for Lewisburg.

Montgomery scored four runs in the top of the first inning but Cowanesque Valley scored the next 14 runs as it defeated the Red Raiders, 14-4 in five innings.Abby Stryker went 2 for 3 while Hannah Bryson and Saige Whipple each had two RBI games for Montgomery.

St. John Neumann split a double-header, winning the first game against Millville, 12-0 in five innings and losing the second game to Bucktail, 11-9. In the first game, Anne Weller struck out 10 while giving up just three hits and no walks. In game two, she struck out 11 while giving up just three earned runs. In the two games combined, Weller went 5 for 7 with a double, a triple, three runs and eight RBIs while Shayna McNamee was 4 for 8 with five runs and four RBIs while Cheyenne Danneker had six runs, three RBIs and three stolen bases.

North Penn-Liberty had just six hits but it drew 13 walks as it defeated Sullivan County, 17-0 in four innings. Savanah Doney pitched the two-hitter while she went 3 for 3 at the plate with a two-run home run. Brooke Harvey also had a two-run home run, her first of the year for NP-L.

• In baseball, Jalen Jackson and Cody Shimp combined on a two-hitter and Shimp was spectacular in relief as Williamsport rallied for a 4-3 under the lights Monday at Shikel­lamy. Shimp struck out six in two innings of relief to earn the win and Williams­port (12-3) rallied from a 2-1 sixth-inning deficit. Ry­an Jolin and Joe Fagnano each had two hits for Wil­liamsport and Fagnano had two RBIs. The Mil­lionaires will be seeded either No. 1 or 2 in the District 2-4 AAAAAA playoffs and host a semifinal next week.

Nick Shedleski threw five strong innings and Sam Rosevear went 2 for 4 with two RBIs and earned the save as Lewisburg defeated Southern Colum­bia, 6-3 and clinched its first District 4 playoff berth since 2000. Wilson Fisher went 3 for 4 with an RBI and the Dragons won for the sixth time in seven games.

Mac Griswold went 4 for 4 with a double and two RBIs, but Mifflinburg scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings and two more in the bottom of the 10th to edge Jersey Shore, 6-5. Lance Welsh and Koby Peacock also had two hits for Jersey Shore (11-7) which has lost two straight after having won eight in a row.

Warrior Run had 19 hits and Kade Meyers pitched a five-inning five-hitter as Warrior Run defeated Muncy, 16-1 in five in­nings. Brayton Rowello went 5 for 5 with three RBIs, Gage Anzulavich went 3 for 3 with two RBIs while Vince Bender was 3 for 4 for the Defenders. Nate Paisley had a first-inning solo home run for Muncy.

Wellsboro fell behind 6-0 before scoring two runs in the bottom of the fourth as the Green Hornets fell to Danville, 6-2. Dalton Prough and Carson Davis had two hits apiece for Wellsboro.

• In college softball, Mansfield softball Koryn Wickwire earned another All-Region nod being named to First Team DII Con­ference Commissioner’s As­s­o­ciation (CCA) All-Atlantic Region at the utility position. The junior belted out 36 hits including 10 doubles, a triple and a home run on her way to a .387 bat­ting average. She crossed home 19 times and drove in 17 RBIs.
