Local roundup: Lewisburg, Galeton in team tennis semis

Lewisburg and the defending district champions Galeton advanced to the District 4 Class AA boys tennis team semifinals on Tuesday.

The semifinals begin next Tuesday at Blooms­burg University on Tues­day at 3, with the finals to begin shortly thereafter.

Lewisburg beat South Williamsport, 3-0, to advance and Galeton beat Montoursville, 4-0.

On the other side of the bracket, Central Columbia defeated Bloomsburg, 4-0, and Danville advanced with a 4-0 win over Towanda.

Central Columbia will face Danville while Lewis­burg faces Galeton.

Muncy’s Justin Kramer won at No. 1 singles vs. Loy­alsock’s Austin Mar­tin, but that was the lone victory the Indians had as Loyal­sock beat Muncy, 4-1.

Danville defeated Mon­toursville, 5-0. Montours­ville’s Casey Haas lost at No. 1 singles to Aidan Kennedy, 6-2, 6-4.

Milton defeated Jersey Shore 3-2 as Eric Counsil defeated Mike Walker 6-3, 6-1 in No. 3 singles.

• In high school baseball, Hughesville jumped ahead with a three-run lead after one inning and didn’t let up, en route to beating Warrior Run, 5-1.

Matt Myers led the Spartans (8-4) with a double and two runs scored. Warrior Run was led by Michael Muffly, who went 2 for 3.

Dalton Prough went 2-3 with 2 RBIs as Wells­boro beat Towanda, 4-3. Cam Tennis, Parker Mann and Silas Wagaman each scored a run for Wellsboro.

North Penn-Mansfield fell to Northern Potter 11-7. J.P. Shaw had a home run and Carl Dinger went 3-3 at the plate for Mansfield.

• In high schoool softball, Towanda scored five in the third inning, but Wellsboro scored four in the fifth and two in the sixth to pull away, 8-6.

Sydney Tremper, Cath­ryn Brought and Kailee Clymer all had two hits for Werllsboro and all three had doubles.

Warrior Run beat Hughesville 17-1 in five innings. Haley Miller had two singles and a double for Warrior Run. Jade Cordrey with a triple and Emily Watts had 2 singles for Hughesville.

Kat Ebner had 12 strikeouts in Muncy’s 16-1 win over CMVT. Kassidi Lenhart went 4-5 at the plate with a double and Dominique Schell went 3-4.

Lewisburg fell late to Central Columbia 6-3. Lewisburg’s Katie Coke went 3-3 with a double as Sydney Hoffman and Nana Girton both had two hits.

Williamson scored three in first three innings and played sloid defense in the 3-2 win over Cowan­esque Valley. Emily Yusko, Makaya Butz and Kam Miller each with an RBI. Emma McClaren went 2-3 and had two RBIs for CV.

Amanda Kilps scored the game-winning run in the eighth inning as Montgomery beat Bucktail, 3-2. Emily Snyder got the win on the mound while Kilps finished 2-4 with a run and two RBIs.

Savannah Doney picked up her 10th win of the season as North Penn-Liberty beat Troy 10-0 in five innings. Doney went 1-3 at the plate with a two RBI triple to go with the win.

South Williamsport scored 13 in the second as it defeated Southern 16-0 in three innings. Alexis Schuler got the win and went 1-2 with a two RBI double at the plate.

Juliana Cruz pitched a five-hit shutout and Bella Barone was 3 for 3 as Loyalsock beat Blooms­burg, 7-0.

• In girls track and field, Hughesville defeated South Williamsport, 102-48. Jay­den Leighow won the long jump (14-8) and triple jump (31-11) for the Spartans.

Jersey Shore defeated Midd-West, 119-23. Emma Butzler took first in the discus with a throw of 100 feet, 2 inches. Sidney Trunzo won the 300 hurdles in 54.40 and took first in the 1,600 in 6:03.90.

Williamsport lost to Al­toona, 83-67. The Million­aires’ Maia Morrone won the 100 in 13.20, Nina Schap­pell won the 400 in 1:04.49 and Mary McMa­hon won in the 800 and 3,200.

Kaitlyn Dawes won the shot put (30-11) and discus (86-5) to help Mon­toursville defeat Danville, 90-60. Lauren O’Malley earned a win in the triple jump (33-6).

Montoursville’s Kaylie Schans won the 300 hurdles in 49.60 and the long jump (16-6 1/2). Kyleigh Balint won the 200 in 25.50.

Charlotte Neylon won 100 and 200 dash as Loyalsock beat Warrior Run 85-65. Neylon ran a 13.9 in the 100 and a 29.3 in the 200 to finish first. Madi Welliver, Jane James and Hayden Divers went one, two, three for Warrior Run in the shot put.

Ruby Auman with a 12 minute 3200 as Lewisburg inched out a win over Milton 77.5-72.5. Jenna Devito won pole vault and long jump for Milton with a vault of 9 feet and a 14-7 long jump.

• In boys track and field, South Williamsport edged out Hughesville, 78-72. Hun­ter Crawley earned first-place wins in the 800 (2:10.20), 1,600 (4:47.20) and 3,200 (11:20.10) races.

Jersey Shore defeated Midd-West, 128-22. Jersey Shore’s Isaac Davis won the 1,600 (4:44.90) and 3,200 (10:56.90). The Bull­dogs’ Austin Breon won the 110 hurdles in 18.80 and 300 hurdles in 44.20.

Williamsport defeated Altoona, 87-63. Williams­port’s Ross Stebbins won both the shot put (46-2 1/2) and discus (139-4 1/2). Qayyim Ali won the high jump (6-6) and long jump (22-6) for the Millionaires. Ali also earned a win in the 400 in 49.87.

Josh Dinges won the javelin with a throw of 184-11, beating the second-place finisher by over nine feet, but Montours­ville fell to Danville, 86-64. Mon­toursville won the 3,200, 1,600 and 400 relays as well.

Loyalsock swept three events as the Lancers topped Warrior Run 85-65. Marcus Williams led teammates Sam Newton and Zach Stopper in the 100 with a time of 11.9. Warrior Run took the 3200 and 1600 relay events with a 10:06 and 3:46.3, respectively.

Milton defeated Lewis­burg 94-56. Keyon Wil­liams swept the jumping events jumping 19-3 3/4 in the long jump, 40-0 3/4 in triple jump and had a 6-0 high jump. Lewis­burg’s David Gose won shot put with a throw of 44-5 1/2 and a winning discus throw of 127-3.

• In college baseball, Lock Haven set a milestone for most wins in a single-season in 16 years by defeating Indiana (Pa.), 5-4. The 29 wins are the most for the Bald Eagles since they won 29 in 2001.

Lock Haven’s Cayden Stover hit his 18th double of the year, a new school record. Milton grad Brady Chappell led Lock Haven by going 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs.

• In women’s lacrosse, Kelly McGinniss, Jordan Lazarich, Hailey Kimble and Leanne Shaw each scored three times as Lycoming advanced to the semifinal round of the MAC Championships in 14-4 win over Lebanon Valley. Nicole Gerling had 10 saves in goal.
