Local roundup: WR baseball beats Spartans

Luke Burrows pitched a complete-game to lead Warrior Run to its fourth straight win that clinched a District 4 baseball playoff spot for the third straight year as the Defenders defeated Hughesville, 5-1, on Thursday. Noah Show­ers had a three-run home run in the third inning to give Warrior Run the lead for good. Jacob Corson, Ryan McClain, Connor Kep­ner and Mike Hill each went 2 for 3 for Hughes­ville.

Freshman Logan Ott threw a complete-game two-hitter as Montoursville defeated Millville, 10-0 in six innings. Preston Shearer went 2 for 3 with two RBIs while Bryce Ranck went 3 for 3 with a double.

Dakotah Snyder al­lowed just one hit over six in­nings as Lewisburg de­feated Line Mountain, 10-0. Wilson Fisher went 2 for 3 with two RBIs and two runs.

Muncy had six errors as it fell to Central Columbia, 12-2 in six innings, in the Indians final game of the season. Coleman Good led Muncy at the plate, going 2 for 3 with an RBI while Nate Paisley had two runs.

Williamsport finished the regular season with an 8-7 loss at Mifflinburg. Eilliott Walker was 3-for-3 in the loss. The Million­aires are off until opening District 2-4 AAAAAA play at home next Thursday vs. Delaware Valley.

• In high school softball, Alyssa Yungwirth threw a complete-game no-hitter to lead Wellsboro to a 3-0 win over Jersey Shore. Yung­wirth allowed just three base runners, with only one being a walk, as she struck out 10. Yungwirth also went 3 for 4 with an RBI, a run and a stolen base. Ryann Adams went 2 for 4 for the Green Hornets.

Muncy finished the regular season at 17-3 as it defeated Sullivan County, 13-0 in four innings. Kat Ebner pitched the three-hitter while Monique Woodring led the offense, going 3 for 3 with five RBIs.

Kylie Brouse gave up just one run while allowing six hits as Milton defeated Warrior Run, 4-1. Milton scored three of its runs in the bottom of the first inning. Madi Waltman gave up just five hits in the loss for Warrior Run.

Montoursville tied the game at four in the bottom of the first inning but it couldn’t get any more runs across and struggled on defense with five errors as the Warriors fell to Miff­linburg, 15-4 in six innings.

Savanah Doney capped North Penn-Liberty’s regular season with a complete-game six-hitter as NP-L defeated Cowanesque Val­ley, 4-2. NP-L fell behind 1-0 and 2-1 but scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take control.

Williamson scored six runs in the top of the seventh inning to tie and nearly overcome a six-run def­icit but Troy walked off in the bottom half of the inning to defeat William­son, 7-6. Kendra Colegrove went 3 for 4 with a double, a triple, and three RBIs, giving her 100 career hits for Williamson.

Ashley Gardner had 3 hits and South Williams­port beat Millville, 10-6, as Emily Hennigan struck out 7 and walked none. The Mounties close the regular season at Bloomsburg today, where a win can bring a share of the HAC-III title.

Hughesville split a doubleheader to finish its season at 9-11 as the Spartans fell to Shikellamy, 4-0, and defeated Midd-West, 9-6. In that Midd-West win, Rachel Baxter earned the win while Emily Watts was 2 for 4 with a double, a triple and three RBIs while Megan Ryder was 2 for 4 with two runs.

• In boys tennis, at the District 2-4 Class AAA doubles championships at Kirby Park in Wilkes-Barre, Williamsport’s Lu­kas Radulski and Ty Jack­son fell to the No. 1 seeded duo of Timmy Christman and Brian Ostrowski of Abington Heights, 6-1, 6-3. In the quarterfinals, Radul­ski and Jackson won a second-set tiebreaker to defeat Wyoming Valley West 6-2, 7-6 (8-6). The round of 16 found the Millionaire pair battling for three sets but prevailing over Pittston Area 6-2, 3-6, 7-5.

Tiarnan Ferry and Liam Ferry won their preliminary match over Pittston Area in three sets, 7-5, 6-7 (7-4), 6-2. They went on to the next round and lost to the No. 2 seed duo from Delaware Valley but forced two tiebreakers and a third set despite not being seeded themselves, 6-7 (7-4), 7-6 (7-1), 6-3.

• In college softball, Mans­field’s Rachael Ster­ner was named to 1st Team All-ECAC Division II honors at first base with Koryn Wickwire and Alli Mc­Govern being named All-ECAC Honorable Mention.

• In golf, Elkland and Penn State alum T.J. Howe shot an even par 72 at the Country Club of Scranton in the U.S. Open Local Quali­fying. Howe, who played at Oakmont in last year’s U.S. Open, now advances to the Sectional Qualifying in advance of the US Open June 15-18 at Erin Hills in Wis­consin. Todd Vonder­heid of Lewisburg shot a 79, missing the cut.
