Mansfield grad Hillson signs pro contract

MANSFIELD – Former Mansfield University baseball standout Taylor Hillson, a Mansfield High School grad, signed a professional contract to play with the Evansville Otters of the independent Frontier League.

Hillson will make his professional debut Wednesday when Evansville travels to the River City Rascals in O’Fallon, Missouri. He is the 54th Mountaineer in program history to play baseball at the professional level since 1969.

“Playing professional baseball has always been a dream of mine,” Hillson said in a statement. “I’m very thankful for this opportunity and I am looking to make the best of it.”

Hillson made 169 starts in 172 appearances at shortstop and third base in his four seasons with the Mountaineers. The Mansfield, Pa. native batted a career .323 with 182 hits including 31 doubles, two triples and two home runs. His 182 hits ranks 10th on the Mansfield all-time list. He posted a .403 career on base pct. as the Mountaineers’ leadoff hitter. Hillson stole 32 bases in his career.
