Dominican Republic team to LLWS

For the second time in three years, Los Bravos de Pontezuela Little League from the Dominican Republic will represent the Caribbean region at the Little League World Series after defeating the representatives from Aruba, 8-4, on Thursday in the regional final in Saint John, Antigua. The Caribbean regional included eight teams and began July 7. The Dominican champions went 4-1, outscoring the opposition, 47-23. Its loss came to Aruba in its third game, 6-2. Their 2015 LLWS qualifier went 1-2, beating a team from Portland, Oregon, in the consolation round. The 2017 LLWS runs. Aug. 17-27 at Lamade and Volunteer Stadiums. Hills LL of Sydney, Australia, and Seoul West LL of Seoul, South Korea have already qualified. This will be the ninth appearance for the Dominican Republic here, dating to 1978. The country’s best finish came in 1983 when Liquito Hernandez LL from Barahona lost the final to East Marietta, Ga. The next regions scheduled to begin are Latin American (July 15-22), Mexico (July 15-21), and Europe-Africa (July 17-25), and Japan (July 22-23). Canadian and United States regionals are in August.
