Local roundup: Loyalsock Major Softball stays alive

Hannah Winter threw a one-hitter and Loyalsock collected 10 hits as it stayed alive in the Major Softball state tournament on Wednesday with a 13-1, four-inning win over Warrington.

Loyalsock advances to the consolation semifinals today where it plays Fair Chance in another elimination game at 6 p.m.

Allyia Kennedy was 3 for 3 with a triple and two RBIs for Loyalsock, and Winter also drove in a pair of runs, as did Rhandie Jessell. Grace Shaible tripled and drove in three runs for Loyalsock.

Winter struck out five to pick up the win.

• A six-run second inning proved to be key as Montoursville defeated Williamsport Red, 9-4, in the losers’ bracket final of the District 12 9-11 baseball tournament to earn a spot in the final.

With the win, Montoursville plays for the district championship against Keystone on Friday at Volunteer Stadium at 6 p.m.

Cole Johnson went 2 for 3 with a grand slam for Montoursville, Niko Rotoli was 2 for 3 with a solo home run and Colton Markel hit a two-run home run.

Williamsport Red’s only player with multiple hits was Makai Day, who went 2 for 4 with a home run.

• Loyalsock defeated Montoursville in seven innings, 10-8, to advance to the District 12 8-10 baseball championship game at Volunteer Stadium on Friday night.

Loyalsock scored three in the top of the seventh. Dereyk Kulp went 4 for 4 with four RBIs and Jeremiah Johnson and Kayden Keefer both had two hits for Loyalsock.

Montoursville was led by Lucas Naughton (2 for 3) and Nathan Bear (2 for 4) while Elijah Way added a two-run home run.
