Local roundup: Sock majors in sectional final

Mallory Rodarmel and Hannah Winter lead the Loyalsock major softball team to an 11-1 win over Berwick in the winners’ bracket final of the sectional tournament.

With the win, Loyalsock earns a berth in the championship game on Friday at 5:30 p.m. at Milton.

Rodarmel was 1 for 2 with a two-run home run. Winter held Berwick to a run and four hits in five innings.

Rhandie Jessell was 3 for 3 with three RBIs, Haily Berkheiser was 2 for 2 and Allyia Kennedy was 2 for 4 with an RBI. Madeline Luxenberger also went 1 for 1 and had an RBI in the win.

Loyalsock jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the first inning and out-hit Berwick, 11-4.

• Newberry’s junior softball team lost the first game of the sectional tournament to RTL from Wyalusing, the District 15 champion, 11-4.

Newberry must now win today and Friday to claim the sectional tournament in the best-of-three series.

Hailey deBrody went 2 for 3 for Newberry with a double. Olivia Beck had a double and two RBIs for newberry and Kaitlyn Raemsch was 1 for 3 wtih a double and RBI.

Newberry’s Claire Alexander was also 1 for 4.

NTL led 3-0 after the first inning.

The second game of the sectional tournament is at Newberry today at 5:30 p.m.

• In the District 12 9-11 baseball tournament, Williamsport Red won in a rout over South Williamsport, 28-0, in the elimination bracket to advance and stay alive.

With the win, Williamsport Red will play Loyalsock at Old Lycoming this afternoon at 6 p.m.

• Montoursville edged out East Lycoming, 16-12, in the District 12 9-11 softball in the first losers’ bracket game. With the win, Montoursville advances to face Jersey Shore at Clinton on Friday at 6 p.m.

• Montgomery scored twice in the seventh inning to defeat Montoursville, 2-0, in the 2017 Marlin R. Dillon minor league championship game at Original League.
