Late rally dooms Cutters

A five-run eighth inning sent the Williamsport Crosscutters to their 12 loss in the last 14 games Monday night, 10-4 at the hands of Batavia.

After Greg Pickett tied the game at 4-4 with a solo home run in the sixth inning, Batavia took a one-run lead on a two-out RBI single from Ricardo Cespedes.

But the Muckdogs really took off in the eighth inning against reliever Damon Jones. Harrison White forced in a run with a bases-loaded walk. Demetrius Sims followed with a bases-loaded triple to score three runs and drive Jones from the game.

Batavia added another run on a wild pitch by Jhon Nunez. Jones allowed six runs in just an inning of work, walking four.

Josh Stephen hit his second home run of the season for the Cutters in the third inning, connecting for a two-run shot, his first home run since July 3 in West Virginia. Stephen has 24 RBIs this year.

Stephen, Nick Maton and Yahir Gurrola combined for six hits in the top three spots in the lineup for the Cutters.

Williamsport returns to Bowman Field tonight against Auburm.
