Sam Perez allowed just four hits over seven innings, leading the Batavia Muckdogs over the Crosscutters in a 5-0 win on Friday at Bowman Field.
The loss eliminated the Crosscutters from the playoff and Pinckney Division chase, as they fell 6 1/2 behind division leader Mahoning Valley and wild card leader Hudson Valley with six games to play. The Cutters are 33-35. Mahoning Valley and Hudson Valley are 40-29.
Batavia scored four runs in the first, including a single by Sean Reynolds that scored Terry Bennett. The Muckdogs scored again in the second inning, when Jared Barnes hit an RBI double, bringing home Mathew Brooks.
Julian Garcia (3-5) went two innings, allowing five runs and six hits. He also struck out four and walked one.
Yahir Gurrola doubled and singled twice for the Crosscutters. Williamsport was held scoreless for the sixth time this season, while the Batavia staff recorded its fourth shutout of the year.
Today’s home finale vs. Batavia was moved up from 7:05 to 4:05 to try and beat expected rain later tonight.
