Local roundup: Lyco women, PC teams drop soccer openers

Lycoming lost at home to Susquehanna, 3-0, in the women’s soccer season opener for both. Emily Sul­livan scored with two assists.

Penn College dropped a 3-1 decision to King’s in a non-conference match.

• In men’s soccer, Penn College dropped its season opener 3-0 to Geneva.

• In women’s volleyball, Lock Haven dropped its season opening matches, 3-0 to Bellarmine and 3-0 to Walsh. Veronica Morrison led LHU with 23 kills over the two matches.

• In field hockey, reigning Atlantic 10 Player of the Week Alyscia Smith scored twice in Lock Haven’s 3-0 win over Towson.

• In college cross country, Amanda Shultz’ 11th-place finish in 14:52 led Lock Haven’s women in the 11th annual Dolan Duals vs. Penn State. Mitchell Coakley was 13th in 18:52 to lead the LHU men.

Senior Kyle Adams won and Bucknell took the top five spots in the season-opening Bison Open against Juniata, Loyola (Md.), Lycoming, and Sus­quehanna. Kaylee Long’s 39th in 16:36 led the Lyco women, while Daniel Moses was 42nd in 22:18 to lead the Lyco men.

Penn College placed a runner in the top 10 of both the men’s and women’s races at the Misericordia Invitational. Sidney Trunzo kicked off her college career with a fourth place finish in the women’s meet, while reigning NEAC Rookie of the Year Josh Velez finished seventh for the men.

• In high school cross country, Cowanesque Valley’s Jules Jones won the girls race at Northern Potter in 21:14.
