Local roundup: South girls blank Millville in a rout

Lela Warner and Lexi Yerger scored twice as South Williamsport blanked Millville in a rout, 7-0, in girls soccer on Thursday afternoon.

South Williamsport’s Bella Green added a goal and dished out three assists. The Mounties led 5-0 going into the half and limited the Quakers to just one shot on goal.

The Mounties (2-2-1) host Montgomery on Saturday morning.

Alaina McKee recorded 40 saves, but it wasn’t enough as Athens blanked North Penn-Mansfield, 13-0.

Athens recorded 53 shots and limited Mansfield to none.

Macy McCarthy continued her impressive season by recording her third hat trick of the season, scoring four goals in Sullivan County’s 10-3 win over Wyalusing.

Madison Burke scored three goals, Sophia Springman added two and Bethany Beinlich had three assists.

• In boys soccer, Milton’s Colton Loreman had 12 saves, but Danville managed to get one past him in a 1-0 win over Milton.

The Black Panthers were held to just one shot.

Lewisburg defeated Shikellamy, 2-0, thanks to two second-half goals.

Warrior Run took a three-goal lead into the half and held on to defeat Montoursville, 4-1. Dominic Caputo had Montoursville’s only goal.

Warrior Run had four goals by four players. Tyrese Hazzoum and Jordan Morrison both had a goal and assist.

Wellsboro scored eight goals in the first 40 minutes en route to an 11-0 win over Sayre. Kaeden Mann had a hat trick while Noah Fitch and Tanner Runyan each had two goals. Runyan also had two assists and Leach had a team-high four.

“The boys played great in tough conditions. We created a lot of chances, 48 in total even though we only got 27 on net. Their goalie made some great saves,” Wellsboro coach John Shaffer said. “Our defense also did a great job limiting space and keeping the ball moving. Hopefully we can continue this rhythm on Saturday.”

Williamsport scored seven goals in the second half as the Millionaires defeated Shamokin, 11-0, to improve to 4-1 and 3-1 in the HAC.

Lucas Naief had a hat trick for the Millionaires and Tom Pombor added two goals.

Justus Lehigow scored an unassisted goal to give Hughesville a one-goal lead at halftime, but Central Columbia scored four in the second half to defeat the Spartans, 4-1.

South Williamsport jumped out to a one-goal lead in the first half, but Southern Columbia rallied to score two to give the Tigers a 2-1 win over the Mounties.

• Jersey Shore and Williamsport had four matches that went three sets as Williamsport edged out Jersey Shore, 3-2, in girls tennis.

Katie Meale won for the Millionaires at No. 1 singles, 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 and teammate Mia Shuler won at No. 2 singles, 6-7 (4-7), 6-3, 6-3.

Both doubles matches went three sets as well.

Hughesville defeated South Williamsport, 4-1. The Spartans’ duo of Lauren Hall and Carlee Pepper won at No. 1 doubles, 6-7 (5), 6-3, 14-12 over South’s Zoe Jackson and Jen Bowman.

The Mounties’ lone win came at No. 2 singles where Lauren Peck defeated Jade Cordrey, 6-2, 6-2.

Central Mountain blanked Lewisburg, 5-0. Kendall McCluskey won at No. 2 singles for the Wildcats by beating Caroline Sigl, 6-0, 6-0.

Jolee McCluskey won for Central Mountain at No. 1 singles, 6-3, 6-0, over Lewisburg’s Lauren Shearer.

Montoursville blanked Milton, 5-0. Maddy Reeves earned a win at No. 1 singles over Milton’s Hanna Seebold, 6-0, 6-0.

The Montoursville No. 1 doubles team of Alena Clary and Tori Kleese also won at No. 2 doubles, 6-0, 6-0.

• In high school golf at Shade Mountain, Lewisburg had a pair of golfers lead the Green Dragons with a 94, as Lewisburg took second in the final results behind Midd-West (85).

The Green Dragons’ Dustin Terry and Pete Marrara shot 94 each. Brett Herman shot a 98 for Lewisburg. Milton was led by Carter Fedder’s 114.

At Belles Springs in a Mid-Penn golf match, Montgomery placed second out of four teams with a 358 score, behind only Benton’s 324. Sullivan County was third with a 406.

Montgomery’s Mike Miller shot an 80, the second-best score behindonly Benton’s Daryn Hess (73). Sullivan County’s John Saxe shot a 96.

• Williamsport’s Tyler Holcomb was the lone runner to clock a time under 18 minutes as Williamsport’s boys cross country team swept a tri-meet, defeating Shamokin (23-34) and Midd-West (19-36). Ryley Holcomb took second place over all in 18:22. Oam Patel was sixth in 18:59.

• Mary McMahon led a parade of Williamsport runners in the top three spots as the Millionaires defeated Shamokin (22-35) and Midd-West (16-47) in a girls cross country tri-meet. McMahon’s winning time of 20:19 was followed by Cecillia Fink’s 22:29 and Sharon Engel’s 22:54.

• Lycoming senior Alhoun Lundy won his second singles match of the year at No. 4 singles, but the Lycoming men’s tennis team didn’t win another match, falling to Susquehanna, 7-1.

Lundy won his second singles match of the season in as many chances as he picked up the Warriors lone point with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Alex Cocolas at No. 4 singles.

• Lycoming freshman Kiannah Titus posted 10 kills and 10 digs for her second double-double of the season and sophomore Lilly Singleton finished with 13 kills while hitting .355 to lead the Lycoming College volleyball team to a 3-1 (25-19, 25-23, 13-25, 25-20) win over Mount Aloysius.
