Local roundup: Muncy girls postseason-bound

Muncy scored a goal two minutes in and defeated St. John Neumann, 8-0, in girls soccer on Thursday to clinch a District 4 Class A playoff berth.

Aleaha Bigelow, Bailen Bowen and Alivia Heivly all had two goals each in the Indians’ win.

Ashlyn Fowler had a goal and two assists for Muncy. St. John Neumann’s Addy Matz had 16 saves.

Sullivan County’s Macy McCarthy recorded her 100th career goal in a 3-0 win over Millville. McCarthy had two goals in the win.

Sophia Springman had two assists for the Griffins, who are now 11-3.

Annalise Eiswerth scored the game’s lone goal as Jersey Shore defeated Shamokin, 1-0.

Hannah Kauffman had five saves for the Bulldogs to preserve the shutout.

North Penn-Mansfield lost to Sayre, 2-1. Mansfield held an early lead in the second half when Alyssa Remley scored on an assist by Trinity Bogaczyk and Amanda Rutledge.

Sayre scored twice in a 4-minute span to take the lead.

Bloomsburg scored two second-half goals to defeat Warrior Run, 2-1.

Kierra Trivelpiece gave Warrior Run a 1-0 lead at halftime before Marissa Keyser scored twice in a 7-minute span to give Bloomsburg the lead.

Kelli Beiler scored three times as Midd-West beat Williamsport, 3-0. Both the Mustangs and Millionaires had 12 shots.

The Millionaires (11-5) host Abington Heights on Saturday morning.

Hughesville defeated South Williamsport, 5-3. Lela Warner scored twice for the Mounties.

The Spartans received two goals from CC Getz, who also had an assist. Gracie Grieco, Morgan Hopkins and Jayden Leighow also scored for Hughesville.

• Curtis Sauers scored a goal in the 69th minute off an assist by Aaron Bird to tie the game late for South Williamsport, but a Benton goal a minute into overtime gave Benton the 4-3 victory over the Mounties in boys soccer.

Caleb Snyder and Zack Hanisek both scored for South Williamsport, too.

Southern Columbia scored four second-half goals to pull away for a 5-0 win over Muncy.

Grady Oden had 13 saves for the Indians.

Wellsboro defeated Galeton, 4-0, as Tanner Runyan had two goals and Noah Fitch and Brett Rudy both added one.

“I was happy with the number of chances we created, but wish we would have finished more of them,” Wellsboro coach John Shaffer said. “We need to focus as we have four games over six days to finish the season.”

Mifflinburg scored a goal in each half to defeat Milton, 2-0. Milton’s Colton Loreman had 13 saves as the Black Panthers are now 6-8-1.

• Bri Keane had a team-high 17 assists and five points, but Wellsboro fell to North Penn-Liberty in girls volleyball, 3-0 (25-23, 25-11, 25-23).

Caitlyn Callahan had seven kills.

• With a solid all-around effort that included 45 kills and a solid .252 hitting percentage, the Lycoming College volleyball team defeated Lancaster Bible College, 3-0 (25-23, 25-17, 25-19), in non-conference action.

Lycoming sophomore Alysa McDevitt led the team with 10 kills, hitting .643, and the trio of sophomores Lilly Singleton, Katie Hausknecht and freshman Elle Jednorski each added eight kills.

• Penn College freshman Ashley Donat’s first career hat trick helped Penn College pick up a 6-1 victory over the Clarks Summit in a non-conference women’s soccer match.
