Local roundup: Warrior Run soccer teams win

Wyatt Fisher scored twice and Warrior Run scored four second-half goals as the Defenders defeated Montoursville, 6-0, Monday afternoon at Montoursville in boys soccer. Tucker Hays made five saves for the shutout while Ian Plankenhorn made six saves for Montoursville.

James Koconis scored three goals and Tommy Bhangdia, Anders Dollard scored two goals apiece as Lewisburg defeated Shikellamy, 11-1.

Franklin Summerson scored in the 53rd minute but South Williamsport fell to Southern Columbia, 2-1.

Yasler Montero-Salas scored a goal in each half to lead Sullivan County to a 4-0 win over Muncy. Donald Miley made three saves for the shutout.

Alex Yoder scored Milton’s lone goal and Col­ton Loreman made 17 saves but Milton fell to Danville, 3-1.

After trailing for the first time all season, Tan­ner Runyan scored at 14:42 off a free kick and Cam Tennis scored the game-winner at 58:56 off Gabe Leach’s 50th career assist as Wellsboro defeated Millville, 2-1.

Tiarnan Ferry and Tom Pombor both recorded hattricks and Simon Wallace and JR Confair both scored twice as Williamsport routed Shamokin, 11-0. Ten players recorded a goal or an assist for Williamsport.

Steven Millheim made 13 saves but Hughesville fell to Central Columbia, 2-0.

• In girls soccer, Lewis­burg’s Tatum Olmor scored the game-tying goal at 67:40, but about a minute later, Warrior Run’s Avery Bieber scored off a free kick to lift Warrior Run to a 2-1 win over Lewisburg. Jane James scored the Defen­ders other goal off another free kick at 52:24.

Kailee Clymer scored four goals as Wellsboro defeated Wyalusing, 5-1.

Aleaha Bigelow scored two second-half goals and assisted on Ashlynn Fow­ler’s goal as Muncy defeated Millville, 3-0. Makenna Snyder made nine saves to preserve the shutout for Muncy.

• In college football, true freshman quarterback Kyle Knight of Lock Haven has been named the PSAC Eas­tern Division Co-Offensive Player of the Week after leading the Bald Eagles to their first victory of the season. Knight rushed for 181 yards and four touchdowns in one of the biggest wins in school history. Lock Haven racked up a school-record 460 yards on the ground on the way to the 62-0 victory over Cheyney.

• In men’s soccer, after a pair of shutout MAC Com­mon­wealth wins, Lycoming junior goalkeeper Chris Solecki has earned his second MAC Common­wealth Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week award of the season.

• In women’s soccer, Bucknell’s Brianna Kropi­nack was named Patriot League Rookie of the Week after scoring with an assist against Army West Point.

• In men’s tennis, after going a combined 5-1 in singles and doubles play and rising up program records lists, Lycoming senior Rob Smith has earned his first MAC Common­wealth Men’s Tennis Player of the Week award.

• In women’s tennis, leading Lycoming to a 2-1 week with a combined five wins, South Williamsport graduate Hannah Sum­merson was named the MAC Common­wealth Wom­en’s Tennis Player of the Week.

• Penn College has inducted its 2017 Hall of Fame class: Zachary M. Plannick, Steven D. Bull, William J. DeAngelo and Williamsport graduate Leroy Joiner.

Joiner led the Wildcats in scoring during his three seasons and finished with 1,620 points, which ranks No. 2 on the all-time Penn College scoring list. Joiner, who earned an associate degree in individual studies, capped his career by being named to the USCAA Division II All-America First Team for the third time – the most in program history.
