Local roundup: Williamsport boys soccer beats Bethlehem Liberty

Williamsport defeated District 11 powerhouse Bethlehem Liberty, 3-0, on Saturday in boys soccer.

Tom Pombor, Tiarnan Ferry and Sam Hillman all scored for the Millionaires.

J.R. Confair had six saves in goal for the shutout.

Owen Yoder, Alex Yoder, Eric Counsil and Cole Geiger all scored twice in Milton’s 9-0 rout of Shamokin.

The Black Panthers (5-4-1) led 5-0 at halftime.

Jersey Shore’s Alex Butzler scored two goals to help the Bulldogs defeat Montoursville in overtime, 2-1.

Dylan Leitch and Dan Paulhamus both had assists for Jersey Shore.

Lucas Schultz recorded a hat-trick as Sullivan County defeated Towanda, 8-0. Brian Lewis had a goal and three assists to Schultz, Hunter Amer and Jalen Thomas.

Hughesville defeated Muncy, 3-1. After taking a 2-0 goal into the half, the Spartans’ Brody Heller hit a 55-yard free kick for a goal with 34:20 to play.

Muncy’s Isaac Boring scored on an assist by Nathan Wetherhold with 8:06 to play to avoid the shutout.

• Katie Penman and Sammy Reeder each scored twice as Williamsport blanked Hazleton, 7-0, in girls soccer to improve to 9-3.

Williamsport held a 21-3 shots advantage. Jenna Whitford, Talia Lewis and Aaryka Goodwell also scored goals.

Sadie McCaleb had a goal and assist but Central Mountain fell in a close one to Mifflinburg, 3-2.

Central Mountain’s Avery Baker also scored and Sloane Tressler added an assist.

Wellsboro and Sayre played to a 2-2 draw. The Green Hornets’ Kailee Clymer scored in the 36th minute and Emma Poirier netted a penalty kick in the 38th minute.

Morgan Hopkins’ overtime goal led Hughesville to a 3-2 win over Muncy. Valerie Ammar-Khodja and Jayden Leighow also scored for Hughesville.

Muncy’s Bailey Bowen assisted Aleaha Bigelow in the 26th minute.

• In girls tennis, Montgomery defeated St. John Neumann, 7-0, and Galeton, 5-0. Katie Forrestal won at No. 1 singles against Neumann, 6-1, 6-2, and against Galeton, 6-1, 6-1.

• Cazenovia College scored a goal in each half to defeat Penn College, 2-0. The Wildcats fall to 4-6 and 2-1 in the NEAC in men’s soccer.

Lock Haven freshman Beckham Sibiski scored in the 62nd minute and the Bald Eagles knocked off No. 22 West Virginia Wesleyan, 1-0.

The win improves Lock Haven to 6-2-3.

Lycoming nets two goals in second half in 2-1 win over Widener. Abdullahi Abdi and Sainclair Tueno found the back of the net for the Warriors.

Matt Thorsheim scored early for Bucknell and Nick King assisted Bernie Wright in the 27th minute on a goal as the Bison held off American in a 2-1 win.

• The Lock Haven University women’s soccer team looked poised for the upset and dominated every facet of the opening half, but a strong second-half by Taylor Lewis proved to be the difference for No. 25 Gannon University in a 2-1 win.

Leisha Noble gave Lock Haven a 1-0 lead in the 41st minute before Gannon scored three minutes later.

Lycoming’s Jordan Lazarich scored on a penalty kick in the 90th minute, but Lycoming fell to Widener, 2-1.

Warrior Run grad Madi Welliver recorded eight saves in goal for Lycoming (3-6-1).

Penn College’s Hailee Hartman scored twice, including tying the game in the 64th minute, but a late goal by Cazenovia College won it, 3-2.

Tiffany Brown had an assist for Penn College.

Bucknell continued its recent run of dominance by defeating Holy Cross, 3-0, for its school-record-setting sixth straight shutout victory. Freshman Alexandra Catanzarite notched a goal and an assist, and seniors Maddie Mulford and Jackie Ham also contributed goals.

• Penn College picked up its first NEAC win in a 3-1 women’s volleyball victory over SUNY Cobleskill before losing to Gwynedd Mercy, 3-0, as part of a tri-match.

Penn College’s Sophie Coldsmith had 25 digs in the win over SUNY Cobleskill and 19 in the loss to Gwynedd Mercy.

Lock Haven dropped a PSAC match on the road at Gannon University, 3-0 (25-20, 25-20 & 25-15).

The Bald Eagle offense was led by Gabrielle Stick and Kristen Nealon. Stick led the Haven attackers with eight kills while Nealon fed the attackers with 21 assists.

Lycoming droped both matches against Stevenson and Hood, 3-0. Lycoming fell to Stevenson, 25-10, 25-16, 25-21. Kiannah Titus led the Warriors with 10 kills and two blocks. Catherine Berger had 12 assists.

• Bucknell had six women swimmers win 10 individual eents in the team’s season-opening meet against UMBC. Maggie Wyngowski won the 400 IM in her first collegiate meet in a time of 4:25.03, the seventh-fastest in school history.

• Garrett Sommer won the 3-meter dive for Bucknell’s men’s swimming and diving team in the season opener against UMBC. He posted a score of 233.63 to earn his first collegiate victory, 45.83 better than second place.

• Bucknell men’s took first at the Long-Short Invitational at Dickinson College while the women’s team had a third-place finish.

Lycoming’s men finished 17 and the women were 14th.
