Montoursville’s Maddy Reeves and Olivia Evans won the District 4 Class AA doubles title Monday at the West Branch Tennis Club, 6-1, 6-1, over Loyalsock’s Madison Savidge and Jenna Beiter.

Both pairings advanced to the PIAA championships next weekeend in Hershey. They were also regular singles players throughout the regular season on their respective teams.

Reeves and Evans advanced through the semifinals with a 7-6, 6-1 win over Hughesville’s Kendra Smith and Jade Cordray.

“We just talked about staying positive this week,” said Montoursville coach JoAnn Reeves, adding how they practiced against other doubles teams once they joined together for this tournament.

Evans said she was feeling motivated against the Loyalsock duo, part of a Lancer group that won a regular-season league title earlier this month.

“We had really tough matches against Loyalsock during the season, so I really wanted to show what we were made of and what we could do,” said Evans.

Reeves added, “We played Hughesville tough and that was a really hard match and we went into this one knowing that we could do it.”

The Montoursville pair had complete faith in one another that each player had the mental and physical fortitude.

“This is the best we’ve ever played together” said Reeves with Evans adding “I felt like nothing could get us down, bad shots didn’t effect us, so we just kept going.”

The Lancers had to pull back on the second set after Reeves and Evans successively delivered their strikes, eventually closing it out in two sets.

Savidge and Beiter reached the final by beating out another Warrior team with Karina Dangle and Lydia Barbour in the semifinals, 6-4, 5-7, 7-5.

Last week, Hughesville’s Rachel Thomas and Katie Savidge advanced to states as the District 4 AA singles champion and runner-up, respectively. Hughesville also won the District 4 AA team title.

The doubles win gave Evans an extra reason to celebrate Monday, as it was her birthday.

“I’m going out to dinner and I’m really excited,” said Evans.

Reeves said it was a proud moment for her in her third year as coach to put two teams into the semifinals.

“They’ve been with me all three years and I just have seen them grown as players and as individuals and it’s really nice to see how far that they’ve come,” said Reeves.
