D4 volleyball finals tonight

The District 4 volleyball championships are set for a doubleheader at Williamson tonight.

In the Class A field, a new district champion will be decided as Cowanesque Valley and Canton play at 6 p.m.

Canton went 8-8 in the regular season in Class A and Cowanesque Valley finished 8-9. Galeton, the defending Class A champs, went 7-10.

Canton and CV are the only two teams in the Class A postseason.

In the Class AA field, North Penn-Liberty and Wellsboro will play for the championship following the Class A game at approximately 7:30 p.m.

North Penn-Liberty (18-0) defeated Troy, 3-0, in the semifinals while Wellsboro (18-4) edged out Wyalusing, 3-2 (25-16, 25-14, 26-24, 26-24, 18-16) in the semifinals.

The Class AA championship game is a rematch of the last two volleyball district champions, as Liberty won it in 2016 and Wellsboro in 2015, both in the Class AA field.

Wellsboro’s Caitlyn Callahan leads the team with 186 kills and 53 blocks while Brianne Keane has a team-high 56 aces.

Canton will look to win its first volleyball championship since 2009.
