Four straight titles for Lewisburg team

Tommy Bhangdia had been getting chances throughout the game, but Midd-West wasn’t yielding a goal to him through the first 95 minutes of play.

But in the second overtime period, Bhangdia finally put one past Midd-West’s keeper.

From 25 yards out, Ben Liscum fed a ball to Bhangdia, who managed to pull the Mustangs goalie one way and he sent it wtih his left foot the other for a 1-0 double overtime goal in the District 4 Class AA championship at Danville on Thursday night.

The win gives Lewisburg its fourth consecutive District 4 title.

“It means we did something no one else has ever done before (from Lewisburg) and we are excited about being first team to do that,” Lewisburg coach Skip Kratzer said. “So it means a lot.”

The last District 4 team to win four consecutive district titles in any class was East Juniata, which won four consecutive Class A championships from 2009-12.

“It was a classic Lewisburg/Midd-West game. Very physical. Midd-West had their opportunities, we had our opportunities. One minute you’re on the edge of your seat thinking you scored, the next you’re hoping the defense steps up,” Kratzer said. “I would say overall of all things that went on, I am so proud of our defense as a unit. They really came up big in some really big sitatuations.”

The Green Dragons (20-1) will get District 2’s Scranton Prep in the first round of the state tournament on Tuesday in Class AA at a time and site to be determined.
