Local roundup: Lock Haven men’s hoops earn 1st win of year

The Lock Haven University men’s basketball team captured their first win of the new season, 87-67, on the road at Carlow.

After a bit of a slow start, the Bald Eagles leaned on freshman Matt Cerruti and his 15 first half points to turn an early deficit into a 13-point halftime lead.

Loyalsock grad Ben Sosa had a double-double of 21 points and 10 rebounds, but Penn College fell to Alvernia, 82-74.

St. John Neumann grad Alize Johnson posted a double-double with 10 points, 14 rebounds and five assists as Missouri State defeated Southern University, 86-58.

• Despite a 16-point performance from Kate Walker and 11 from Kaitlyn Slagus, Bucknell lost at home to Saint Joseph’s, 77-53, in women’s basketball.

Chelsea Woods nearly put up a double-double for Saint Joseph’s with 21 points and nine rebounds, all defensive.

Rileigh Devine and Maimuna Kenneh both scored 12 points each as Lock Haven defeated Penn State Altoona, 84-53, to give the Bald Eagles their first win of the season.

Ahnera Parker led the Bald Eagles with 15 points and Kayla Henderson scored 10.

Brielle Kelly and Erin Gibbons combined to score 33 points as Mansfield defeated Pitt-Bradford, 60-50. Mansfield never trailed in the game.

Penn College freshman Tori Wolfe posted a double-double with a team-high 17 points and 10 rebounds to help Penn College defeat Thiel in the Wildcats’ season opener, 55-48. The Wildcats pulled away wtih a 21-point fourth quarter.
