Local roundup: Wellsboro drops one-point game to Line Mtn., NP-Mansfield routed at Southern Columbia

A blocked extra point proved to be the difference as Wellsboro fell to Line Mountain, 14-13, in the District 4 Class AA playoffs.

After Aidan hauser had a 1-yard touchdown run with 9:35 to play in the game, the Wellsboro extra point was blocked, preventing Wellsboro from tying the game.

Quinn Henry led the Green Hornets’ offense by rushing for 127 yards and also had an 81-yard punt return early in the third quarter to bring the Green Hornets to within seven points.

Defensively, Wellsboro played well, forcing two interceptions and a fumble as Collin Pietropola had five tackles, a pick and forced and recovered a fumble. Brent English had a team-high nine tackles.

Aidan Hauser ran for 80 yards and had a touchdown for the Green Hornets.

Line Mountain had just 87 rushing yards as a team on Friday as Wellsboro forced the Eagles to throw the ball. Evan Herby had 192 passing yards for Line Mountain, throwing both of the team’s touchdowns.

Line Mountain scored its only touchdowns in the second quarter as Herb had 40- and 50-yard touchdown passes to take a 14-0 lead into the half.

Southern 63, NPM 26

North Penn-Mansfield hung with Southern Columbia early in the first quarter, but the Tigers proved to be too much and defeated NPM in a rout, 63-26.

Southern Columbia remained undefeated thanks to scoring 42 points in the first half leading 56-20 after three quarters.

Gaige Garcia led Southern Columbia with 187 rushing yards and three touchdowns.

North Penn struggled running the ball against the Tigers defense, only having 43 yards on 31 carries, but Brent Burleigh had some success throwing, passing for 214 yards and throwing three touchdown passes.

North Penn’s run defense struggled against Southern Columbia as the Tigers ran for 327 yards on 42 carries.
