Central Mountain fourth at King of the Mountain

Central Mountain put eight wrestlers into today’s quarterfinals and are in fourth place after the first day of the King of the Mountain tournament on Friday. The Wildcats’ 66 team points left them just 4.5 points behind leader Chestnut Ridge (70.5). Seneca Valley (70) and Phillipsburg (66.5) were second and third.

Muncy was in 10th place with 51 points and five wrestlers in the quarterfinals, and Warrior Run has 40 points with three wrestlers in the quarterfinals.

Johnny Shreffler (113 pounds), Seth Andrus (126), Logan Long (145), Asher Corl (160), Tanner Weaver (170), Tanner Riggle (195), Mahlik Houtz (220) and Jake Edwards (285) all reached the quarterfinals for Central Mountain.

Jacob Blair (113), Mario Barberio (120), Joe Klock (138), Mike Kustanbauter (182) and Hunter Poust (220) reached the quarters for Muncy. And Noah Hunt (113), Jeremy Hanford (126) and Christian Wachter (182) are in the quarterfinals for Warrior Run.

Blair, Hunt and Shreffler make up three-fourths of the wrestlers on the bottom half of the 113-pound bracket. Blair and Shreffler face off in the quarterfinals today. Blair beat Shreffler, 11-3, in the Top Hat final last week.

Kustanbauter faces returning state champion Cody Mulligan of Saegertown in this morning’s quarterfinals.Barberio faces state finalist Chase Shields of Bishop McDevitt in the quarterfinals. Corl faces returning state champion Creighton Edsell of Wyalusing in the quarters.

The quarterfinals are scheduled for 10 a.m. today with the semifinals at 1:30 p.m., and the finals at 4:45 p.m.
