Local roundup: Hoffman one of 3 Bucknell champs as it wins the Lock Haven Classic

Garrett Hoffman, D.J. Hollingshead and Matthew Kolonia won individual titles to pace the Bucknell wrestling team to a first-place finish at the Lock Haven Classic Friday at Thomas Fieldhouse.

Boasting at least one placewinner at eight weight classes, the Bison totaled 113 points to edge Old Dominion (103.5) for the team crown. Messiah College rounded out the top three.

Hoffman, who advanced through the first round at 197 by medical forfeit, pinned VMI’s Max Gallahan in the semifinals in just 1:06. In the championship bout, he defeated Old Dominion’s Noah Bushman by a 7-2 decision.

Geo Barzona was the lone Bison to finish as a runner-up. At 125, the only weight class contested by round robin, he won three of his four bouts to place second to Warner.
