Local roundup: Neumann boys defeat CMVT

St. John Neumann pulled away in the second half and downed CMVT, 47-36, Tuesday in boys basketball. Noah Persun led Neuman with 17 points, Jaiden Lynch had eight.

Garrett David had a game high 24 points as Mansfield defeated Wil­liamson, 79-36. Dylan Mey­er had 20 points and Nick Kasper added 15 for the Tigers. Williamson’s Tan­ner Adriance had eight points.

John Saxe and Sam Carpenter led Sullivan Coun­ty to a 90-12 win over Montgomery. Saxe scored 15 points and Carpenter had 14. Steve Prince led Mont­gomery with five points.

CV fell to Northeast Bradford, 53-42. Christian Kemp led CV with 14 points. Andy Crown had 17 for NEB.

Four Warriors scored in double figures as Canton defeated Troy, 60-48. Camden Route led with 20 points, Michael Smithers had 15 points and 14 rebounds, Jake Rentzel and Silas Binford both had 10 points with Binford adding 15 rebounds.

Wellsboro topped Troy, 79-27. Dalton Prough and Quinn Henry led with 13 and 12 points respectively, Collin Pietropola added 10 points and Brandyn Tuttle had 11 rebounds for the Hornets.

Liberty fell to Wya­lusing 49-35. Brandyn Choplosky led the Moun­ties with 16 points, Noah Spencer and Logan Horsley each had six.

• In girls basketball, Makaya Shadle recorded a triple-double as Galeton defeated Bucktail, 65-29. Shadle had 20 points, 12 assists and 10 rebounds. Katelyn Pagano added 19 points and Cara Parsell had 13. Maria D’Onofrio led Bucktail with 14 points.

Grace Kelleher’s 19 points helped Lewisburg defeat Shamokin, 33-22. The Green Dragons relied on a strong second half effort after a slim 11-7 lead at the half.

• In men’s soccer, Penn State announced the hiring of Jeff Cook as men’s soccer coach Tuesday. Cook has 27 years of coaching experience and comes to Happy Valley after serving youth development roles with the Philadelphia Union of MLS and Bethlehem Steel FC of the USL over the past four-plus years.

Cook coached at Cincin­nati from 1996-2000 and Dartmouth from 2001-12. He led Dartmouth to five Ivy League titles and seven NCAA tournament appearances, including the round of 16 in 2008 and 2010.
