Local roundup: Smith helps lift Williamsport boys to win

Eric Smith scored the go-ahead basket for Williamsport in the second quarter and the Millionaires held on the rest of the way for a 72-63 win over J.P. McCaskey.

Darryl Wilson led Williamsport with 17 points, Keith Jason added 16 and Marcus Simmons scored 13.

Dylan Meyer scored 16 points and Brent Burleigh added 14 and North Penn-Mansfield beat North Penn-Liberty, 59-45. Liberty was led by Duncan Zeafla’s 19 points.

• In girls basketball, Loyalsock overcame an 11-point first quarter deficit to get within three at the half, but the Lancers fell to Mount Carmel, 48-46. Summer McNulty led Loyalsock with 13 points.

Millville defeated Montgomery, 34-25. Jessica Umpstead and Saige Whipple each led Montgomery with seven points.

Hannah Kauffman (19) and Krista Eck (11) combined for 30 points but Jersey Shore fell to Selinsgrove, 45-39.

Williamsport used a team defensive effort to record its second win, doubling its total from a year ago, in a 35-31 win at Pottsville Nativity BVM. Jada Whaley’s 13 points led Williamsport.

Dana Kingsbury of Benton recorded her 1,000th career point in Benton’s 39-30 win over Muncy, a game in which the Indians did not attempt a free throw.

• Lycoming freshman D’Yante Doughty had a career-high 19 points and Darius Dangerfield scored 14 points in his first career start as the Warriors beat Arcadia, 79-75, in MAC Commonwealth men’s basketball action.

James Bullock and Erik Perry Jr. both scored 12 points each in Penn College’s 75-57 loss to Lancaster Bible. Loyalsock grad Ben Sosa added 11 points.

UMass-Lowell redshirt senior Jahad Thomas, a Williamsport grad, led the River Hawks with a team-high 15 points while also adding nine boards and dishing out six assists in UMass Lowell’s 89-62 loss to UMBC.

• Morgan Mader scored a team-high 14 points and helped Lycoming defeat Arcadia on the road, 72-56, in women’s basketball.

Erica Lutz had a career-high 12 points, Becca Painter had 11, Lewisburg grad Akilah McFadden had 10 points and five assists and Shelby Mueller posted another double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds.

Penn College fell to Lancaster Bible 79-46. Loyalsock grad Cassi Kuhns led the Wildcats with a team-high 15 points. Gwendolyn Lavelle added nine points for Penn College.

• Penn College dropped a pair of wrestling matches at a home tri-meet to Gettysburg, 41-6, and were edged in a tiebreaker by King’s College (21-21).

Daniel Bergeron earned a 12-10 decision at 157 pounds for Penn College against King’s to give the Wildcats a 15-6 lead.

• The Lock Haven swim team lost to Kuztown at Zimmerli Pool, 131-90. The Bald Eagles honored their lone senior, Jackie Bingham, during the meet. Kristin Allen won the 200 fly in 2:19.10.
