WILDCAT WEEKLY: Penn College teams post wins

Over the past week, all three Pennsylvania College of Technology winter sports teams picked up wins.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

At Wilson College last Sunday in the North Eastern Athletic Conference, the Wildcats lost, 87-72. James Bullock, of Philadelphia, topped Penn College with 23 points and Robert Young Jr., of Abington, added 13 points while Ben Sosa, of Loyalsock Township, hauled in 11 rebounds. The Wildcats, outscored 44-28 in the first half, hit on just 4 of 22 shots from the 3-point line.

On Wednesday at home, Young Jr. scored 24 points as Penn College shot 52 percent from the field and got its first NEAC win of the season, 77-67, over Cazenovia College. Also for the Wildcats, Spencer Bartron, of Camden, Delaware, scored 16 points; Bullock added 14 points and 11 rebounds; and Jesse White, of Harrisburg, pulled down 14 boards, 13 on the defensive end.

Saturday at Morrisville State College, the Wildcats lost, 97-72, to drop to 2-14 overall and 1-6 in the conference. Bartron led Penn College with 19 points while Young Jr. and Bullock each scored 14 and Bullock added 11 rebounds.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Last Sunday in NEAC play at Wilson College, the Wildcats used a strong second half to pick up their second win of the season, 63-54. Jane Herman, of Greencastle, led Penn College with 23 points while Tori Wolfe, of Dalmatia, and Gwendolyn Lavelle, of Pocono Summit, each chipped in with 13 points. Lavelle led the Wildcats with 10 rebounds.

At home on Wednesday against Cazenovia College, the Wildcats lost, 76-67. Erika Lepley, of Lewistown, led Penn College with 24 points and 13 rebounds while Cassi Kuhns, of Loyalsock Township, scored 19 points and had 12 rebounds and Wolfe 18 points.

On the road Saturday at Morrisville State College, Penn College fell, 78-51, to drop to 2-13 overall and 1-6 in the NEAC. Wolfe topped Penn College with 16 points while Kuhns had 12 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.

WRESTLING

Last Sunday at Johns Hopkins University, Penn College lost to Washington & Lee University, 32-12, and the host team, 47-9. Two Wildcats – Jared Mooney, of Palmerton at 197, and Dylan Otis, of Towanda at 285 – both ended the day 2-0 with Otis recording a pin.

In a home triangular on Saturday, Penn College lost to Alfred State College, 35-21, and beat Bergen County Community College, 29-6, to go to 3-16 on the season. Otis went 2-0 at 285 for the Wildcats as did Nicholas Bruce, of Troy, at 174. Seniors Bruce and 197-pounder Patrick Ostrowsky, of Lewisburg, were honored prior to the match.
