Local roundup: Lycoming women clinch postseason spot

Lycoming used a strong first half to defeat Alvernia, 67-49, in women’s basketball Wednesday and in the process, clinched a postseason berth.

Shelby Mueller had a solid night, finishing with 15 points, 10 rebounds and a career-high five blocks for her 10th double-double of the year. Morgan Mader had 15 points and Lewisburg grad Akilah McFadden added 13.

• Lycoming’s Ramadan Jennings came of the bench and scored a team-high 25 points to help the Warriors defeat Alvernia, 79-66.

Seniors Chris Wallace (15 points, 10 rebounds) and Alex Newbold (10 points, 11 rebounds) both posted double-doubles for Lycoming in the win. Ronald Jefferson also scored 10 points off the bench for Lycoming.

Williamsport grad Jahad Thomas was named America East Player of the Week after his 50-point week for UMass Lowell. Thomas averaged 25.0 points and 9.5 rebounds per game as the River Hawks went 1-1 this past week.

• Cara Parsell and Makaya Shadle’s double-doubles led Galeton to a 56-33 win over Oswayo Valley in girls basketball. Parsell finished with 10 points and 11 rebounds, Shalde had 13 points and 11 rebounds.

Grace Kelleher scored 26 points and went 17 for 19 from the line as Lewisburg defeated Mount Carmel, 59-51. Bethany Rippon added 13 and Emily Sholly had 10 points.

• A 25-point effort from Ahmahd Keyes helped Warrior Run edge South Williamsport, 66-64, in boys basketball.

Gage Anzulavich added 10 for the Defenders.

South Williamsport was led by AJ Flick’s 21 points and Pete Sinibaldi’s 20. Cole Lentz chipped in 13.

Cowanesque Valley fell to Wyalusing, 51-30. Jon Morrison led the Rams with 24 points.

Wellsboro defeated Towanda as Brandon Tuttle had a 14-point, 10-rebound double-double. Dalton Prough had 14 points.

Ethan Williams and Eric Smith both scored 12 points as Williamsport beat CD East, 65-49. Al-Tamar Jason had a team-high 15 points as the Millionaires used a 28-point second quarter to pull away.

Jersey Shore beat Shikellamy, 69-52. Junior Armstrong had a game-high 31 points. Hunter Frantz and Nate Ewing both had 11 points.

Southern Columbia beat Hughesville, 58-38. Taylor Mason led the Spartans with a team-high 20 points.

North Penn-Mansfield fell to Troy, 62-47. Dylan Meyer led the Tigers with 15 points.

Tony Manzano scored 17 points, but Milton fell to Danville, 65-48. Alex Garcia added 13 for Milton.

Duncan Zeafla’s four treys led North Penn-Liberty to a 58-41 win over Canton. Zeafla finished with 17 points and Logan Horsley had 15. Zach Rentzel had 20 points for Canton.

Loyalsock defeated Lewisburg, 67-43. Gerald Ross had 25 points for Loyalsock, Connor Watkins had 14 and Anthony Pastore had 10. Nick Shedleski led the Green Dragons with 11 points.

John McCarthy’s 19 points led Montoursville to a 62-46 win over Mifflinburg. Owen Kiess added 15 and Austin Loe had 10 for the Warriors.

Bucktail defeated Montgomery, 59-58. Liam Dwyer led Bucktail with 23 points. Montgomery was led by Steve Prince’s 17.

• After finishing tied for fifth in 2017, the Lycoming College men’s lacrosse team was selected to finish sixth in the MAC Commonwealth Coaches’ Preseason Poll.
