Local roundup: Neumann grad Johnson earns first-team All-MVC

St. John Neumann grad Alize Johnson earned Missiouri Valley Conference honors with Missouri State. Johnson was named All-MVC first team for the second consecutive season in men’s basketball.

Johnson is averaging 15.1 points per game and a league-best 11.4 rebounds per game through the Bears’ first 31 games. He also has 19 double-doubles during this season.

UMass-Lowell redshirt-senior Jahad Thomas, a Williamsport grad, logged a career-high 40 points to lead UMass Lowell to a 92-77 win at America East foe New Hampshire.

• Lock Haven true-freshman Laurel Moyer earned U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Atlantic Region honors.

At the PSAC Championships, Moyer won the 5,000-meter race by five seconds, crossing the line in 17:36.09, nearly 10 seconds faster than her best season time.
