Local roundup: Wellsboro boys hold off NP-Mansfield

Dalton Prough totaled 18 points, four assists and three rebounds and Wellsboro held off a North Penn-Mansfield comeback for the 52-47 win, Monday night in boys basketball. Garrett David (15) and Brent Burleigh (14) combined for 29 points as NP-M outscored Wellsboro, 20-12, in the fourth quarter.

John McCarthy scored a game-high 18 points but Montoursville was out­scored by 16 in the first half as it fell to Danville, 55-37.

Twelve players scored, led by 12 points from Pete Sinibaldi, as South Wil­liamsport outscored Mont­gomery 38-2 in the second half and it pulled away for a 73-29 win.

Christian Kemp (17), Tyler Vargeson (14) and Seth Huyler (14) all scored in double figures as Cowanesque Valley defeated Canton, 62-47. Michael Smithers (21) and Zach Rentzel (16) combined for 37 points for Canton.

Matt Myers scored a game-high 12 points with 10 rebounds and Taylor Mason added 11 points and 13 rebounds as Hughesville defeated Milton, 40-32. Qamar Bradley led Milton with 11 points as the Black Panthers were held scorelss in the third quarter but scored 19 in the fourth.

Duncan Zeafla scored a game-high 15 and North Penn-Liberty outscored Sayre 27-13 in the second half for a 48-34 win. Logan Horsley added 11 for NPL.

David Hill scored a game-high 19 points and Dalton Gough had 10 points and seven assists as St. John Neumann defeated Central Columbia, 53-37. Jaiden Lynch added 11 points and six rebounds for Neumann.

• In girls basketball, Williamsport lost 39-35 in overtime at home to Danville. Jada Whaley scored 16 points.

Riley Fry netted a career-high with 23 points and 10 rebounds and Brynna McHenry added 10 points and six rebounds as Montgomery defeated Mea­dow­brook Christian, 43-30.

• In women’s basketball, after posting a season-high 19 points as Lycoming College reached 16 wins for the first time in 18 seasons, Lewisburg graduate Akilah McFadden has earned her first career MAC Com­monwealth Player of the Week award. McFadden av­eraged a team-best 16.0 points per game in MAC Commonwealth wins over Alvernia and Arcadia, helping the team clinch at worst a No. 4 seed in the upcoming MAC Commonwealth Championship. McFadden shot 48 percent (10-of-21) from the field, 50 percent from 3-point range (3-of-6), and 90 percent at the free throw line (9-of-10) while also adding 5.0 assists and 5.0 steals per game in the pair of wins.
