Williamsport Sun-Gazette sports writer Mitch Rupert was inducted into the District 4 Wrestling Hall of Fame Saturday during the District 4 Class AA Duals at Milton High School. The Hall is run by the D4 Wrestling Coaches Association.

Rupert, Bill Ennis, and Pete Bergen were honored Saturday. Steve Sinkovich, Michael Greenberg, Scott Gold, Dave Depasquale, and Chris Shaner will be honored before the finals of the District 4 tournament at Williamsport on Feb. 24.

Rupert has been the preeminent wrestling writer in District 4 for the past 15 years, according to the Hall, which said he is widely respected for his high school and college reporting. In addition, Rupert is a recipient multiple awards in both the Associated Press Sports Editors writing contests and Pennsylvania Newspaper Association.

“What I like about Mitch is that he asks great questions that give his readers tremendous insight into the match or wrestler he is writing about,” Snyder told reporter Frank Dimon for the Standard-Journal. “It’s easy to pick up his passion for the sport when you talk to him. He really gets his readers to know what wrestlers are about.”

Ennis is a longtime photographer at District 4 events and Bergen is a longtime Milton wrestling fixture.
