Millionaires earn 2 gold medals in relay races at districts

The Williamsport boys 200 medley relay team and girls 200 free relay team both earned gold medals at the District 2 Class AAA swimming championships at the Wilkes-Barre CYC on Saturday afternoon as a handful of other Williamsport swimmers placed fifth or better.

The boys team of Riley Hockman, Joshua Bonislawski, Justin Downs and Matt Beard won in a time of 1:41.60, beating Wyoming Valley West’s team by .04 seconds.

The girls team of Annie Rosenow, Elisa Dinicola, Isabelle Griswold and Lydia Smith won in a time of 1:42.41, almost a second better than Hazleton.

Quinn Serfass finished third in the boys 200 free in a time of 1:53 and teammate Zachary Schwoyer took fifth (1:57.37).

Riley Hockman finished third in the 200 IM. In addition to being on the relay team, Beard finished third in the 50 free. Downs took second in the boys 100 fly.

The boys 200 free relay team of Schwoyer, Jack Beattie, Serfass and Hockman finished in fifth.

On the girls side, freshman Isabelle Griswold took home a fourth-place finish in the 200 IM in a time of 2:21.34.

Smith, a sophomore, was second in the 50 free, finishing in a time of 25.12. Dinicola finished fifth in the 100 fly.

After the first day of competition, the Williamsport boys and girls are both second in total points. The girls are only one point (169) behind Delaware Valley (170). The boys (143) trail only Delaware Valley as well (163).

The second day of competition resumes this afternoon in Wilkes-Barre.
